It prints stuff from the computer ok, although it is grey rather than black. It's not run out of ink.
SOURCE: Inkjet Refills
Epson cartridges can be refilled, but most need an actual "resetter" to make them work again. Sorry is problem with epson. Check this website for details; http://www.misterinkjet.com/epson_resetter_instructions.htm Don't automatically buy anything from those guys though until you have asked them if their resetter will work on your cartridge. There are others if you aren't happy with what they offer - please ask again. But yes, in answer to your question you can refill them - resetting them so the computer and printer recognise them as refilled is a little harder. If you feel sufficiently annoyed by Epson for unnecessarily doing this to waste money and destroy the environment, then please feel free to contact them and tell them on this link; http://www.epson.com/ Otherwise please show your annoyance by never buying an epson product again. It's a shame considering their products are actually quite good otherwise. Most, but not all other manufacturers allow you to just refill their cartridges. Hope this helps :)

Remove ink cartridges one by one and put it back in. If same thing happens, try
to do head cleaning and nozzle checks consecutively from the computer.
Start -> Control Panel -> Printers & Faxes (Windows XP) /
Printers (Windows Vista) -> Printer Icon (right click) ->
Printing Preferences -> Maintenance
You should be able to see nozzle check, click it and follow the prompt.
Line patterns that corresponds to the colors of the ink cartridges
would be printed. If breaks on the patterns appear, continue with head cleaning. Try to do this about 3 times until
all patterns are complete.
SOURCE: Help. Cannot print from black ink cartridge
Hi ....
There could be many reason for black ink not printing. You could try couple of steps starting with cleaning the print head ... Follow the below steps to clean the print head ...
After confirming that the cable is connected (if applicable) and the printer is powered on, perform the following.
Note: Standard print head cleaning can also be performed by holding down the <Resume> on the printer until the power light flashes one time. Deep print head cleaning (a more power process that uses more ink) can only be performed from the computer.
This resolves the problem most of the time but if this does not work, please just leave me a note and we'll move to the next step which is checking the cartridge installation to check if its inctalled correctly or not ....
For Windows Vista
For Windows XP Home Edition
For Windows XP Professional Edition
For Windows 2000/Me/98
Please vote if this helps .... Cheers :)
