Hello, my neighbor is letting me try to connect my PS3 to the Internet using his Charter Wireless Internet, but when I enter the details into the PS3, after attempting to connect to his network and obtain an ip an error message appears saying either the attempt to connect to his network or the attempt to obtain an ip timed out & that the key may be wrong but we know it isn't wrong, we've checked it twice.

You cannot use this router to connect to your neighbour's router wirelessly. It is possible to share your neighbours internet connection with this router, only if you run a cable between. You will need a Range Extender or a Wireless repeater for this purpose.

If you mean, can you use your neighbor's wireless with your PS3, then yes. Potentially. First, you'll want to have the permission of your neighbor, for legal reasons. Not to mention if their wireless is Secured, your going to need their assistance in connecting the PS3 to that router. If you have their blessing, then just follow the steps on the PS3 to set up a connection, and have your neighbor in the room or on the phone to give you the information when you need it.

If your trying to get access without them knowing, don't bother. If the connection is secure, your gonna waste a lot of time for nothing.

This is a common dns error with playstation.
try entering the following in your ps3. Settings - Network Settings - internet connection settings - custom - wired or wireless depending on your internet - manual settings - IP address manual - enter your ip address and your router address and change your dns primary

are you putting in the password for the wireless internet

make sure that the password that you enter in the ps3 internet settings is the same password for the wireless router

To make things easy, you can set your Playstation 3 to obtain all the network information automaticlly. All you would need to provide is the SSID (Name) of your wireless network and the encryption password (if you have one enabled).

On Your PS3:

Goto network connection, select enable

Push yes when it says you may be disconnected

Select wired or wireless

For wireless use scan or enter manually

If your neighbors know that your using their router, you might ask them to reset it. If they moved it, this could cause the weakening of the signal, walls drastically decrease a wireless signal. You might also refresh your wireless card by uninstalling the wireless drivers and reinstalling them.

Go and buy a router. Plug your existing modem into the WAN port and your computers into the LAN port. You could even get a wireless router and connect your upstairs computer wireless. Be sure to lock down your SSID (Wireless Access Point Broadcast Name) so your neighbors or people driving by don't get on and do bad things on your network.

I guessing you live close to a neighbor that has an unsecured wireless network. It is possible that they changed their security settings to block out other IP addresses (meaning your PS3). The best solution would be to establish your own internet connection and/or wireless network thru a local broadband internet provider.

Try setting a static ip address on the PS3:-

First you need to find a Windows wired or wireless device already connected to the network in order to find out the required settings

Windows XP
1. Click start --> (sometimes settings) --> Control Panel --> Network Connections
2. Double click on the active connection which will say connected underneath
3. Click Support
4. Click Details
5. Now the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Alternate DNS which are displayed should be noted.

Windows Vista
1. Click Start --> Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center
2. Click on "View Status" to the right of your connection
4. Click Details
5. Now the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Alternate DNS which are displayed should be noted.

Set these values under "manual settings" in the PS3 but add 1 to the last number for the IP Address as this has to be unique on your network
