Can i use my WRT120N on neighbors WiFi Network

With his consent I have been able to get internet access via my Smart TV & PS3,...however the signal is poor, real poor. So my questions are,..Can I use my WRT120N to get a better signal? If so, how would I setup to his 10.0.1.1 IP? Can it be done wireless only? Can I do it in a manner that won't affect his speed or connection? Finally,..how would i connect my TV and PS3 to the router? Of course all these are assuming that it can. Thank you.

Hello there,

You cannot use this router to connect to your neighbour's router wirelessly. It is possible to share your neighbours internet connection with this router, only if you run a cable between. You will need a Range Extender or a Wireless repeater for this purpose.

SOURCE: Network setup questions.

You could program the MAC addresses of only the computers you wan't to be able to connect to the router. It seems like you could add the MAC of your girlfriends computer your business computer and any other specific computer you wan't to allow to connect and this would leave all your current securities in place. Here are instructions if this solution sounds like what you need. http://www1.linksys.com/support/troubleshoot/wireless/wireless_router_config/wireless_mac_filtering.html

Unfortunately, you can't use two routers together in that manner. You must have a device in between them such as a switch or bridge or you'll have to disable the DHCP server settings in the second router. The second router then pretty much becomes a switch you may then use all the ports on the second router with the exception of the WAN port it must remain unoccupied. However, if you need wireless connectivity in another location far away from your main router then your only solution would be to indeed purchase an actual access point/bridge device

I have a Westinghouse smart TV and I have the WiFi home but it is not connecting to the internet or netflix what must I do

Hi Samantha
Assuming that the WiFi is working around the house with other devices like iPhone / iPad and other computers?
The Westinghouse TV is just another device connecting to your Home Network via a WiFi Signal. Unless it uses a dedicated Ethernet Cable at the back of the set > to Modem Router Box.

So... the problem would require setting up the Westinghouse smart TV with the necessary settings.
Netflix is just a web site and will become available when the TV connects to your Network & External Internet GateWay.

First, you need to know your WiFi Name & Password.
I find it easier to use the iPhone as a test device to check the WiFi signal and set up details first. To Test Password etc.
There is a helpful tool on the App Store called iNet - Network Scanner - See Below
So... you must find the settings for Network on your smart tv.
Setting the tv for DHCP is allowing it to Automatically search for an internet connection. Thats what most people do.
Just choose your WiFi name (SSID) & Password.

But... you can choose your own IP addresses if you like to keep all your devices on a known address.
Eg. Your Router or Modem Box Gateway address 192.168.1.1
Each of the other devices have a unique address.
Computer 1 192.168.1.10
Computer 2 192.168.1.20
Camera 1 192.168.1.100
SmartPhone 192.168.1.130
You can use the end numbers between 1 & 255
Your Gateway might also use another IP Group e.g. 10.0.0.0
Your really only interested in making the last numbers different from each other.

Cheers

Network issues with Samsung Smart TV UN60JU6500FXZA

You mention two separate issues, WiFi and smart hub. As you know Samsung built in manual is the worst idea ever. There is no picture of the complete rear panel connection for example.
If the smart hub is the actual WiFi antenna then if your system doesn't recognize Smart Hub then you have a bad smart hub.
to test smart hub plug something into hub ( DVD HDMI, video game) If your remote has smart hub button press and see what appears. Otherwise select source on remote see if your attached item appears. (That would indicate smart hub does talk to TV)!
Since you can access your network when hard wired your network password is stored.
Once you have verified Smart Hub is functional then work on WiFi.
i will say my Samsung is 3 ft from my router and hard wired for better streaming speed.
I use Bluetooth access to share photos from IPads.
I would leave TV hard wired.

How can i get my smart tv to connect to the internet it is already connected to my wifi but when i click to connect to the internet it comes up no internet connection?

Check to see if your laptop or phone gets online via wifi to see if wifi is on the net, and try rebooting your wireless router by unplugging, then plugging in. (do not press "reset" button on router)

How do I connect to the smart tv

I assume you want to connect your smart TV to your network (e.g. to get Internet access for NetFlix).

Depending upon the precise model, it will support WiFi or wired Ethernet (or both). If your TV supports a wired connection, that will provide the best performance. All you need is a spare port on your router/switch and a straight-through network cable.

If your TV supports WiFi, you'll need to get into the its setup to enter the settings matching your home network - that is, you must choose the SSID (essentially, your WiFi network name; so your TV connects to your network and not your neighbor's) and wireless security information.

Which program and settings should I use on my En Genius ECB3500 for rental homes?

For your current router you want to set the following options to optimize your wireless network and make sure it runs stable:
Security mode: WPA2 with AES
Channel mode: manual
Wifi Channel: 11

In order to extend the range of your wifi network you will want to get an access point, or a second router and configure that one as an access point.

Just purchase ps3 with a major goal being to view

reset your network and revamp the pairing between the two units- also if your pc has blue tooth you can pair them directly usind a adhoc style private network that is more effective for streaming from your pc than using an internet capable network because there is less traffic and signal interuption. The files would stream better because not only is there no unwanted traffic but the network its self would be a dedicated link between your pc and your system. Here is a HOW TO LINK ( its for PC to PC but essentially thats all a ps3 is) Ive set mine up and am loving it! So much better than my wifi internet router setup! And Yes you can still access the internet via pc and ps3 using the wifi- and simutaniously use the adhoc bluetooth network with little to no interference or lag
