SOURCE: I have an older Catalina spa with acura controls.
These older style controls are easily repaired but require some electrical diagnosis expertise to determine the problem.
1. Check the pressure switch to make sure it is working properly - Use a continuity checker to see if the pressure switch is closed when pump is running. If not then check for proper water flow. Dirty filter, obstruction in plumbing. If flow is good, replace the pressure switch and see if heater works.
2. Check to see if the heater has 220V at the heater terminals when heater circuit is running. If not, then check to see if the heater contactor (relay) is actuating. Check Hi-limit switch, Thermostat and pressure switch for continuity. If heater has voltage, check for current draw, using a clamp style amp meter around on of the heater wires. look for about 20 amps. If voltage is present but no current draw, the heater is bad.
3. The spa light is a completely separate circuit, check the air switch, air line, button and light bulb. Its a 12V AC circuit.
SOURCE: We have a Great Lakes spa with a Balboa control
Contact Balboa's Customer support department directly at 800-645-3201, follow the prompts to customer tech support (or press 0 and ask for customer support). You will need to be at the spa, control panel open and ready to read off the chip number, and you will need to be proficient with a test meter (AC voltage). The SN error is related to a bad sensor(s), but can also indicate a failed board. An incorrect sensor set will also create this problem, so confirm you used the exact or compatible replacement. If the SN code issue is no longer a problem, but the spa is still not heating, look and see if the heater led is on. If it is, you likely have some burned relays on the board, which can be replaced cheaper than replacing the board. If you need more help, email me at [email protected]
If the SLP or SL Message is Alternating with the Water Temperature on the Display, the Spa is Operating in the Sleep Heating Mode.
If the SLP or SL Message is ON Solid (Not Flashing) on the Display, the Spa is Operating in the Sleep Heating Mode, but there is No current water temperature because the Spa is between Filter Cycles.
Hope this helps.
