Question about RTO Safety Vacuum Release System - SR-500 Stingl Switch
Error 17
This happens a lot at the pool I guard. If the switch shuts the pump off, when you have it restart the pump, it tries about 3 times to restart the pump and then it displays the error 17 message. I'm not sure what the message means but the switch apparently causes the pump to lose it's prime during restart. You reprime the pump by opening the trap (boxy thing with a see through plastic lid) and sticking a hose in the pipe to the pump until the trap is overflowing. Today someone who didn't know about stingl switches attempted to vacumn the pool without it being in maitenence mode and of course it immediately shut off (so at least the darn thing does it's job). After I pressed the on button it tried to restart 3 times and displayed the error 17 message. So, I reprimed the pump and the pump restarted on the second try. Note that sometimes it will seem to have restarted but the Stingl switch is still in start mode. I'm not sure if it is caused by a timer or because it doesn't like the amount of pressure but the switch often shuts the pump down because it thinks the pump isn't fully running or something. The switch will display "pump on" when everything is normal.
Hope this helps,
dru

You have to know what the code is. It could be that your delta-p is off reference. If you watch the screen it will tell you what the code is.
