I have replaced the yellow and Magenta cartridges in the past 2 days and prints are now coming thru with a pink background and the ink check shows magenta as being half empty

This model printer has only two slots for ink cartridges. One is for a black ink cartrigde and the other is for a tri-color cartridge which contains cyan, magenta and yellow inks. This tri-color cartridge has run out of yellow ink, you need to replace this tri-color cartridge.
I think you switched the ink stations. Try to switch the yellow and magenta. It also is a possibility that they are refilled with the wrong ink color. Place new ink cartridges and your problem is solved! (It can be that a few prints still show some pink color, because there is a residu of magenta in the yellow printhead)
Yes correct. The photo cartridge has to be inserted, where you install black cartridge. The photo cartridge gives finishing touch to the photos which you print. The actual photo comes from the color cartridge only, but for lightness and darkness, the color(ink) from photo cartridge gets used.In photo cartridge there are three color ink, that are light pink, light blue and grayish black. In color cartridge there are three color ink, that are pink(magenta), yellow and cyan( blue).------------- This are the details.Thank you for using fixya.
See if the ink cartridges are installed correctly. It may be that your Magenta and Yellow ink cartridges need to change places. So, try replacing the cartridges, put the Magenta where the Yellow is, and the Yellow where the Magenta is. Usually the ink cartridge placement follows this order: Cyan, Magenta, Yelow, Black, so see if the cartridges on your printer match. Also, check to see if there are color markings on the print-head itself, and make sure the markings match the cartridge inks. If the ink cartridges are aligned properly and the Black is printing out just fine, you may be looking at a software issue, and you'll need to remove the printer from the Devices list (go to Start -> Control Panel -> System), unplug the printer from the PC and restart. Then, install the drivers first, and after that plug in the printer cable to the PC.

What particular color are you trying to print from but showing a pink output? Chances are, you may be running out of other inks such as yellow or cyan, and thus the printer uses the magenta since it is still available. Check your ink cartridges if they are full. If not anymore, replace them.
the problem is very simple the magenta ink the cartridge is over or the head is been blocked from where the magenta ink comes out,
because red colour requires ---yellow plus magenta(pink)----to make it red.and ----dark yellow plus magenta(pink) -------- for brown colour.
The ink jet is block this happens when you don't you your printer for a long time or you use the genetic cartridge. What you could do is disassemble the printer head and use hot water to clean it out. Good luck
IT IS POSSABLE THAT THE PRINT HEAD ARE DIRTY THEY HAHVE MATCHING BOARDS TO THE TONER CARTRIDGE BOARDS UNPLUG THE MACHINE AND CLEAN THE PRINT HEAD WITH ALCOHOL IF IT DOESN'T WORK THE BOARDS HAVE FAILED
