HP LASERJET P1006 Printer Logo
Posted on Mar 21, 2009

I can't seem to control which tray the paper is fed from.

The printer takes from the priority tray if there is a page there, however this is not what I want. I want the printer to take a page from the main tray even if there is a paper in the priority tray.

I am printing letters and their respective envelopes. I don't want to have to manually fed the envelopes for every single print job. Any ideas?

Yes it is a P1006. There is a priority tray (for things like envelopes) and a main tray for letter sized paper.

I think that you might be right, as I have tried different configs, etc and nothing seems to make a difference; if there is paper in the upper feed tray, it will be used. Regardless of the configuration.

Well I can always manually feed the envelopes in the upper tray while the letter size paper is in the main tray. Not the end of the world. It just seems ambiguous from the user's manual that one can automatically (from software) toggle between the source of the paper.

it is not actually a laserjet P1006 is it? There are no optional trays for this printer. What is the model?

My idea is that you have the wrong printer for the job. Yes. It will automatically take anything that is put into the upper feed section, because it is actually the same feed section- it uses the exact same feed rollers to feed from the bypass tray as the main tray, this is designed only as a convenience for the occasion you want to print different size paper you may want to run, or for re-feeding for duplex

Printer error shows paper jam at paper tray and printer stops after printing 3 or 4 pages. I open and close the top access and printing resumes for 3 or 4 more pages...stops and shows paper jam at feed...

Try two things:

Fan the paper before placing in the tray.

Raise the humidity in the room to at least 40% to avoid electrostatic sticking of the paper. Store paper in 40% humidity area.

My HP 2420 is taking so long to print a document. Seems like it pauses between each page rather than printing at it's normal rate. Any suggestion?

This could be a problem with the memory in your computer too many programs running at once. Go to start then click run in the box type msconfig this will open a system configuration box click on startup and uncheck programs you don't need running DON'T STOP the firewall or virus checker. Most programs don't have to run they will start when you click on them. after unchecking the ones you don't need running click apply and press OK your computer will have to be restarted and when it starts back up put a check mark where it says dont show me this message again. You could try more memory and always clean out unwanted trash and old files the link is below.

Extra paper being fed after print job

Try a test page from the control panel, if this works properly you probably have an issue with the software of the printer. Reload the printer as if it was a brand new machine.

Ricoh/Aficio SP C410DN Tray priority switches on its own

It is pulling paper from the tray specified within the application you are printing from or the driver. For example, from Microsoft word, you would have to go into page setup and select the tray you would like it to pull from. You will also want to check which tray it is pulling from in the driver, however the application generally overrides the driver settings. Both of which override anything you program at the machine.

Brother MFC - 7420: Paper will not feed!

Does it make the same sound if you feed the single sheet through the bypass with the paper drawer removed? I hate to say it, but your printer's paper feed mechanism may need replaced. Go to http://www.brother-usa.com/AskUs/default.aspx and ask Brother to diagnose this one; I think they'll confer with me and should be able to point you to a nearby Brother-authorized repair center. Let me know what happens!
