This was exactly what I was looking for. HP was no help, but Tom Doubrava knows. Thanks!
This will reset configuration of HP JetDirect, not the printer it self ;)
can you cold reset, or restore defaults? I have a red solid error light on a canon d1320 imageclass

Cold restart:
1. Turn the printer off.(Power Button)
2. Press and hold down the GO button.
3. Turn the printer on, and continue to hold the GO button for at least 5 seconds, but not longer than 15 seconds. During this process, the Attention LED turns on.
4. Release the GO button
Will go to factory default settings. Even if you are facing any issue, do below said NVRAM initialization..
NVRAM Initialization:

Turn off your printer, hold the reset button that should be at the back of your printer, turn the printer on again while holding the button, wait until the printer turns in "ready" state.
Hope this works

Factory default what?
Do you need to restore the system to what it was like when you bought it? If so, you will have to boot from the system restore disks which you had to make when you bought it.
Assuming that the computer is working and you didn't make the disks, there is an item in the Program list that will let you make a restore CD or DVD.
If your computer is not working and you don't have disks, you will need order them from HP.

That doesn't work. Pressing the "Go"-Button in the power-on-process doesn't reset the printer.
While pressing the Reset button on the back of the printer, turn on the printer. Continue to press the Reset button until the printer is in the Ready state (from 5 to 30 seconds).
