I have a brother fax machine model 2480c, just want to know for the ink catridge, do i need full ink in the entire 4 catridge in order for the printer to work OR i can just have say the black colour...

1) The Brother printer is structured in such a way that it will stop all the printing operations if any one of the ink cartridges are empty.

2) If the printer continues printing inspite of having anyone empty cartridge then the cleaning cycles would suck air from the empty cartridge.

3) This would damage the print head.
However, the black and white print mode can operate exceptionally well when the cartridges are empty.

It will print everything except black and is brand

First, try another black cartridge. Second, make sure the cartridge is an original hp -- not a refilled/recycled cartridge. Third, click on START, then Printers and Faxes. Find the printer icon and right-click. Click on Properties, then on Maintenance. Check to see if the ink counter/inklevel for black is showing full. If not, reset it. Also, see if your driver is set to print Composite Black (all three colors will combine to make a simulated black when the black cartridge is empty.. If so, change that too.

Colour cartridge missing but I only want to print

No you cannot. Each one of your cartridges is smart chipped. When this cartridge registers as empty it acts as an on/off switch thus turning the printer off.'

You need to replace the empty cartridge in order to print.

Go printer settings and check option to print only black.

Can't print black/white photos

Actually there is no solution to this "problem" nearly for all Inkjet machines.
The reason is that Printers are Dummy Receivers, meaning that they can not process the print file, sent to them by any source. They are programed to just print the file without "asking questions".
The Manufactures now, of Inkjet machines, in order to avoid the possibility of printing something with a certain colour missing, they have just programmed their machines NOT TO PRINT ANYTHING whenever ANY colour is empty.
So, dont bother trying to print making all kind of adjustments and change settings and get a new cartidge :)

Epson stylus DX 7450 doesn't print black

Hello, This can be FIXED. I'm not trying to be helpful. I'm here to FIX your problem.

You want to make changes to the printer settings to once again print in Black and White or Grayscale mode by going to Start Menu, Control Panel, Printers. Right click your printer and select Properties. Now make the changes to everything prints Black and White or Grayscale. This will make the change effective system wide as opposed to what you did which was for a single print job in a program.

Now, unfortunately, you will still get an error message that your color cartridges are empty anyway because they are.

To disable the error message do this.
Press and Hold the Stop/Reset button for 6 full seconds and then release it? Use the one Mississippi method of counting.

This will disable the empty cartridge error on most Epson printers.

Let me know of your results as I am here to FIX your problem. I'm not here to be helpful. I will work with you until this is FIXED or is now FIXED. OK? Use the comment box below to let me know your results.

I have a Canon Pixma ip 1600 printer. My coloured cartridge has just run out but I mostly print in black and white anyway so don't really want to buy another one just yet. The problem is my printer just...

That is the way your printer operates - if cartridge has no ink or is low it will stop operating completely. It sucks but..........................Those bastards want you to buy their ridiculously overpriced ink!

Why is there 2 black ink cartridges in my Canon MP600 printer

On some printers, probably including yours, the black ink will be taken from the reserves in your colour cartridge unless you specifically tell it to do a black and white print on each document, regardless of whether it's printing black exclusively. I wouldn't worry, the black ink in it's own cartridge can also be used for colour photos etc with no detrimental effects.
