Canon ink cartilages have a code and have to be reset when refilling. If
this has not been done they will not work. If they are cannon brand and not refills, take them back where you bought them.

SOURCE: Ink Cartridge Settings

Have you tried Canons FAQ? They suggest checking the grayscale box, which apparently only works with certain kinds of printing (duplexing and borderless will still use colors). I don't understand how colored inks are used to create black, but that's what they claim. Anyway, here's the link: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=257&modelid=11641

Hi,

With these types of printers they will use all 4 colors to make black unless you configure it other wise. The link below will take you to the printers support page. In the box that says "please enter your question" type "how to use only 1 black ink". it will give you top results, just click #1 and it click on your operating system. Follow the instructions given and that should take care of it. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

SOURCE: printer says set ink cartridge

Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Ink light on changed ink still wont print

it sounds like the printer has not accepted the changed cartridge.

Try turning the printer off at the mains for 30 seconds then back on again, it sometimes works, or if that fails take out the cartridge's turn off printer for 30 mins then back on re insert inks and see if that works.

If it fails then there could well be a chip set failure on the cartridge you have replaced or maybe another cartridge within the set.

It's well worth saving the cartridge too as compatibles sometimes fail to be read by your printer but rarely the actual cartridges fail, you can put that same cartridge back in later for it to be accepted by the printer.

My printer is givning me a message "Incompatiable Ink Cartridges" refer to status screen on computer. 1. no status screen pops up. 2. i have refilled ink cartridges in my printer and they are...

Sometimes this is due to ink over the contacts, or the cartridge being out of date. Clean all the contacts in the printer and also on the face of the cartridge.
If it still does not work try setting the date back in the printer and on your system, wait 5 mins and re-install the cartridge.
This can also happen it the cartridge has been over-used. I have re-filled a HP cartridge over 20 times and then all of a sudden it wont recognize no matter what I do. I Think the "chip" in the cartridge has a limited life and after so many times It simply wont work.
Hope this helps, Regards GM

My printer will not accept the ink cartridges I have bought because they are not from lexmark it is showing error1203 how do I get around this?

Possible that the ink cartridges are not meshing along with the contacts. Hence the original is important to get the ink cartridges to contact.
Remove and set back the cartridges, if possible remove the printer and reinstall after removing the driver software. If this wont work the original cartridge must be sourced.

I replaced the color cartridge with a new one. The new cartridge was the wrong size. I placed the old colour cartridge back in the printer and now the printer will not work. The ink drop for the colour...

Hp is known for being a pain with ink.

We once had a business jet that would not print because our ink had expired lol...

The printer wont work because it know's that the old cart has no ink. And since it needs all three colors along with black to print it will not do it, Usually you can set the printer to print only black under properties or print settings.

Other then that you will need another cartridge. You can also try one more thing. If you need to print in a Pinch, down on the right hand part of your screen, Is the clock. Double click it and change the date back a year from today and see if that helps you print

I just inserted a black PG 40 ink cart and theres an error coed 5 indicating that i need to insert a color cart. i set my ink stat to black only and gray scale and it still wont pint

I think you need to have both cartridges in your printer in order to print. If you have put the PG-40 only, the printer can't connect the electric circuit and won't work. Canon's manual explains the error code: the ink cartridges are not installed, or a non supported ink cartridge is installed or the ink cartridges are not installed properly.
So, my guess is either to pop in a Cl-41 and print or, if both cartridges are in, remove them from the printer and gently clean the electric circuit on them with a dry cloth. You can also clean the cartridge carrier. Put the cartridges back in and try printing. If that doesn't work, try holding the "resume" button (triangle in circle) for about 10 sec for each cartridge, that should reset them.

Hope that will help solve your problem!

What does cyan mean on a brother 240-c all in 1 printer it says replace cyan it wont do nothing

Cyan is the "blue/green" ink cartridge which is required to print in full color. Some printers stop working when one or more ink cartridges is empty. Get a complete set for some savings and for the next cartridge that gets empty. Printers are cheap now, it's the ink that gets costly.

Added new ink cartridge. Still wont work

It needs ink in both the color and the black in order to work properly. It is just something HP does to make sure that the printer will work properly.
