Black ink smears when printing out

When printing, black printot smears, while color printout does not. I've run the clean printer option and it doesn't do any good. I cannot get the printer to align either. I always get the message that the alignment failed. I've had this printer for many years, and am just now having this problem.

I am afraid that Dennis (Writing below) is correct, When you have smearing it is a print head problem and they need to be replaced, If you have had this printer for many years (HP GOOOD Printer) you should check prices on a new machine, the reason for that is that HP has discontinued support on many machines as of 1 Jan 2013, If you can find a print head for your system it may be half the price of a new machine, Also; if one print head is going it may not be long before you see the same problem on the one or more color print head. It is probably not what you were hoping to hear but right now HP has several really good systems on sale,

Testimonial: "You must be right about the print head, as I've tried everything else that I've seen on this web site and on HP's web site. It has been a very good and reliable printer for at least 7 years it seems, so I can't complain. Thanks for your comment. I will look into a new print head before buying a new printer. Thanks again ~ this web site is great!"

Thanks for your advice. I think you are absolutely right, since all else has failed. I'll stop wasting my time and look into a new printer or printhead. Thanks so much!

I just got off the phone with HP and they no longer support my printer (2004) they will trade in my old one for a new one (all in one) for $211. That seems like a really good deal and shipping my old one back is free. I'll have a 3 year warranty on it as well. Is this a no brainer?

I had the same problem. Ended up replacing the black/yellow "printhead" and that corrected the problem.

SOURCE: hp psc 750 won't print with new color ink cartridge

To solve the printing problem..

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

Canon mx860 printer not using ink from PGBK 220

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

I am trying to print wedding invitations and a black line prints down the left side of the envelope. I have tried cleaning the printer, but it has not helped. Do you have any suggestions? My printer is...

Black printer ink in HP Printers may fail to be recognized by the printer. Sometimes the printer may accept to print with the black ink, but the printouts may have horizontal lines and very illegible letters. Even though you've run the cleaning utility on the printer, a manual cleaning of the print head should be carried out. In doing the manual cleaning, one should spray Windex heavily on paper towel and wipe off the surface of the print head.

HP L7700 officejet printer leaves streaks on black ink lines only. Have cleaned heads repeatedly, changed black and color cartridges - nothing works.

Print in grayscale (black area streaking only) If the streaks are in a black area of a black and white printout, change to grayscale printing.
NOTE: This step does not apply to color printouts.
  1. In the application you are printing from, click File , and then click Print .
  2. Make sure the printer is selected and click Properties .
  3. Click the Color tab, and select Print Grayscale and High Quality .

Ink blobs on edges of printouts

Dear sir,

I figured out this problem it may cause; The problem behaves strangely why only on the right section the printout is not fused. The common section I first check is the high voltage circuit causing no static properties the powder shall be fused with the drum's developer. Now, it is clear also that the cause is within the drum. Pls check drum's life by printing the machine diagnostic details to check all moving and consumables counters. Clean the drum by rotating the developer roller. Well see if there's a irregularity of powder distribution. Have a nice day.
