After changing both print cartridges, The message keeps saying Press Enter to align cartridges. I keep pressing Enter and the message never clears out. Also, sometimes it prints an alignment page, but only in black. I can print things in black only, the color is not working at all. The printer message is always there. How fix this?
Another solution...we were having the same issue, but we found out that our black cartrige was out of ink...and when we replaced the cartrige with a new one, the "align cartriges" message when away once we pushed it one final time...we are in good shape now...yes, we are idiots.

I had the align cartridges message as well. I pressed the "setup" and "option" buttons, pressed the power button on and off. I also received the button stuck message in several languages. I unplugged the printer for a minute, plugged it back in, turned it on and the printer seems to be working now. Thanks for the help!

After spending hours on the HP site I found this and after holding down the 2 buttons everything is fine. Thanks

I followed the suggestion of an earlier posting (hold down set-up and options keys at the same time) and it worked! :-)

Pressing "setup" and "options" together works for me.

I tried the suggested solution and it has made things even worse. Now my printer display tells me in every language under the sun that my buttons are stuck and I must release them! I can't turn it on or off (have tried turning off and back on at mains but it just comes back up with the same buttons stuck message now when it comes back on). I am very frustrated - please can someone help?

Hold "setup + options" at same time while turning off printer and back on while holding "setup + options"

I tried the method of holding down the setup and options buttons while turning it off and then turning it back on but I too had to read a few languages saying the button was stuck. I then held down cancel and restarted the printer. When the align cartridge message appeared again I pushed the setup and options buttons again (without turning it off) and the message went away.
Thanks for the help. Merry Christmas everyone!!

SOURCE: Printer cartridge alignment
You can also bypass the alignment. When the message for alignment displays on the display => Press Setup and Options (or Copy Options ) simaltanious. The last known alignment is used when the alignment is bypassed.

I had the same problem. Holding set up and option buttons and then turning off the printer took care of the message. However, now I can print a self test page and the color comes out great but it cancels the print head alignment almost immediatly. I can print in color but it does not print the correct colors in the picture.
Just changed the black #56 cartridge. The message ":press Enter to align cartridges" appears. I have pressed enter for days and the message will not clear. When the alignment page prints it is the first 2 lines and only in black. How can I clear the message and ensure the cartridges are working properly?
The message comes up to align the cartridges. I hit enter and it starts printing but when it is almost done the message says alignment cancelled and the paper comes out. It happens over and over. Why? ANd how do I make it stop?
same problem
I have changed the ink cartridges in my printer. The message "Press Center to Align Cartridges" keeps scrooling across the screen of my printer. When I press enter it says it is aligning the cartridges and even prints out the alignment page, but the message keeps scrolling. Also, when I print something in color, the colors do not match.
Thank you,
Judy
Same problem. The only difference is that I had several spare cartrigdes, for both color and black. Switched the cartridges, but the problem remained.
Another aspect of this problem was the printed alignment page seemed to print a bit of something, a bit of color and a bit of black, but did not look "complete".
Also I ran a "clean cartridges" process, and it printed a page that looked very regular, A sequence of rectangles, followed by several horizontal colored bars.
So it seems that the printer *can* print... but doesn't.
I am having the same problem with this printer as mentioned above. I have changed both cartridges repeatedly, but I can't get rid of the scrolling message that says, "Press enter to align cartridges." If I do press enter, it repeats this process over and over again. It does print the test page each time, but the message is still there. I am going to try holding down setup/options and turning off the machine. I sure hope this works. I really love this piece of equipment because it does everything that I need it to do. I sure hope this works!
when i change the numbers for the vertical alignment it just prints the same thing as before with the same numbers
Device prints but will not print black with color or color with black print.
