Washer starts at 44 minutes at normal load, begins to agitate, then after just 2 minutes the timer blanks off and then reads 44. It just does this over & over.

I believe I sent a message prematurely. I'll send one again.
I got error code E41 when I pushed both start/pause and cancel simultaneously

All indicator lights flashed as you stated. Will wait for more advice. Thank you.

  • rhousey Jul 27, 2011

Thank you for your advice. I got a repair person to look at the washer on 7/13/11 for a $89.95 service call plus tax. He could not reproduce the problem to my astonishment. However, the error code E41 was still there. No parts had to be replaced. Somehow he cleared the error code. And I haven't had a problem since. Bob

Turn the machine off then unplug it for at least 5 minutes then plug it it back. Turn on the washer then press any button and wait for 5 seconds. Press and hold the START/PAUSE and CANCEL buttons simultaneously. As long as the buttons are held, the most recent failure code will appear on the display as an "E" followed by two numbers, a number and a letter or two letters. The control will beep and the Door Lock, Wash, Rinse, and Final Spin indicator lights will flash. Post back the error code, if there's any, for further troubleshooting and repair advice. Indicate the exact model number of the machine if the procedure prescribed here is not applicable.

The problem is with the door lock and switch assembly as the code signifies. Disconnect power to the
machine. Open the washer door then look for the retaining hoop securing
the door seal around the lip of the door opening. Stretch the retainer
spring of the door seal retaining hoop then remove it.

    Carefully
peel off part of the door seal from the lip of the door opening near the
door lock and switch assembly. Remove enough of the door seal to gain
access to the door lock and switch assembly.

    Remove the screws
securing the door lock and switch assembly to the front panel. Once the
screws are removed, lift the door lock and switch assembly then pull it
    away from the front panel.

Take the door lock and switch assembly
out of the machine. Disconnect the door switch harness then short circuit its terminals by putting a jumper wire between them.

    Put the new
door lock and switch assembly back into position in the front panel and
secure it with the securing screws.

    Properly put the eased part
of the door seal back over the lip of the door opening then secure it
with the retaining hoop. Reconnect power and run a test cycle.
Replace the door lock and switch assembly
(part #131763202) to address the problem if the washer works fine with the door switch bypassed. If not, replace the control board.

Will not stop agitating, timer will not advance

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.20922990

As you say, I'd also suspect that the timer is not advancing.

Following is the Whirlpool / Kenmore service manual for top load, direct drive washers.

Washer won't wash

Hi!
When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:
It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.
It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.
Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Kitchenaid KAWS750JQ3 Top Load Washer

hi there,

make sure that the program is not on the "Intermittent Agitate Program". that would be the cause of the delay.

the other issue would be the timer itself. the timer is mechanical, so once the contact on it is corroded, it will only function intermitently or not at all.

please let me know if i can be of more help.

thanks

Agitator not working

There are several things that can cause your machine to fail to agitate. First of all, you need to ask yourself a few of these questions:

1. Does the washer fill normally, initiate agitation cycle and just the agitator is not moving? If so, the transmission and motor coupling are likely good and the agitator has probably worn out the dogs that cause it to grip properly. The agitator dogs will need to be replaced and you shouldn't need a new agitator. (rough estimate = $5.00 to $6.00).

2. Does the washer fill normally, but stops when the agitation cycle is to begin? If so, I would suspect a faulty lid switch. The lid switch will allow the washer to fill, but will not advance the timer beyond that point on some models. (rough estimate = $35.00).

3. Does the washer fill normally and makes a loud grinding noise when the agitation cycle begins? If so, I would suspect your motor coupling is bad and needs replaced. (rough estimate = $18.00 to $20.00).

4. Does the washer fail to fill at all? If so, I would suspect a bad fill valve, pressure switch remaining shut off and/or timer. (rough estimate for fill valve = $35.00, timer = abt $100.00).

These questions are not all inclusive, but these are some of the more common problems I have encountered. If you can provide me with a little more symptom elaboration, I can lead you in the right direction and get a part number and a better price for you. I will need your EXACT model number (located somewhere along the lid opening. Post back with your comments if you need my assistance. A good majority of the problems associated with Whirlpool top loaders can be easily repaired by the average consumer without assitance from a repairman. I hope this information is helpful to you.
