The machine will fill, start to agitate, then stop. It will then agitate for a few seconds and then stop. There could be upto 10 - 15 minutes between each time is starts. This goes on for upto 90 minutes. Then, once the unit gets to the spin cycle, same thing happens. Spins for a few seconds, stops, delay, spin, stop, delay, etc. Have tried to manually advance the timer, but that does not work either. Thoughts??? Oh, the wash will usually finish in about 2 - 3 hours - lovely huh????
make sure that the program is not on the "Intermittent Agitate Program". that would be the cause of the delay.
the other issue would be the timer itself. the timer is mechanical, so once the contact on it is corroded, it will only function intermitently or not at all.

if you are saying that the washer finishes the load of clothes and timer goes to off and water is filling the tub after this then you have a bad water valve on the back of the washer.disconnect the water lines and change out the valve
Turn timer to rinse cycle. let fill up and agitate. when it stops
agitating it should pause then start to pump water out. After about 2
minutes it should pause for 3-5 seconds then start again and spin. If
it starts the first time and never stops it will just continue to pump
but no spin. The 3-5 second pause allows the transmission to shift to
spin. If it does not do this the problem is your timer. You may need to
do this a few times to verify the problem.
If that is not the problem it is likely that you need a new clutch. You will need a technician to install a new clutch for you
Do you have an age of the machine and model number? Is there a "spin only" cycle? On older machines, there was a center knob you could slowly rotate, one click at a time, to advance it through its cycle. Can you do that? If the unit is agitating, I don't believe the belt is your issue. Age and model please.
Maybe. Sounds like the motor is not agitating in the other direction??? There is a controller on this type of machine which handles the starting...direction of the motor..this is by far the most common for your description.
next would be the timer or transmission.
to check trans..grab top lip of bowl it should be locked in both directions. tilt machine back..you should be able to spin the pulley in both directions it not its the trans
I'm sorry bout the flow of this...not used to doing it like this...think i'm slowly getting better????
