to gabby, some computer may not even recognize mp3 player from a removable disk, i would suggest that your mp3 player will serve as a back up... tranfer all your music to a folder to a fixed drive like drive c: then change the format w/c suits for your pc's media player compatibility like mp3 formats then, after your done transfer again all your songs to your back up mp3, or better yet scan all your music w/ an anti virus like kaspersky, hope this would help
When the player displays the Creative logo, release the Play button.
It will display the following options:
Clean Up
Scans the player and removes invalid links from its music library.
Does not affect music files themselves.
Format (All)
Caution! Erases all content!
There is no scan disk or Utility that i know of that will work sounds like the drive is toast!
before copying the songs into mp3 player first format the card in the mp3 player after that insert the card into computer and copy all the songs what ever you want
When using your MP3 player for the first time you should format it.
Formatting prepares the disk (storage medium) for any reading or
writing. It erases all information on the disk, and tests for any bad
sectors or errors. Below are the steps for formatting your player:

Click cancel. -Right click on My Computer and click on Explore. Look
for the drive Removable Disk (E:) [The letter drive may vary depending
on your computer] This is your MP3 player. -Right click on the drive
Removable Disk (E:) and click Format… A small window will pop up
displaying Format Removable Disk (E:) Click Start. Read the warning and
click OK. Format is complete. This procedure can be done occasionally to
erase all data on the disk storage. http://www.nextar.com/frontend/support.asp?CATEGORY=10000309&MODEL=MA715&subpr=624950167&categ=519278318
