The most likely thing is that the optics on the laser are dusty. Get yourself a CD Optics cleaning disc which has little brushes on it.

The other possibility is the discs you are playing? Are they mastered originals or copies? Are they clean and scratch free?

I have not found a way to select Audio In without the remote (and I've tried every combination of buttons I can think of!)

The approved way to select Audio In is to press the FUNCTION button on the RM-SC30 remote that should have been included with your Sony CMT-NEZ3. See to download your manual.

I had the same problem and found the fix. At the bottom of the LCD, inside the case, it's held in place by two supports and some glue that appear to have corroded a trace on the display PCB. By replacing that trace with a jumper wire it's now working fine.

The unit has to be completely pulled apart to get to the display but is fairly striaght foward if you are used to fixing electronic equipment.

If you have the old belts, take them to Ace hardware and look for o-rings that are the same size. They work well for replacement belts.

Assuming you are using a cable to connect your cell phone to the speaker you could be overloading the input of the speaker when you turn the phone volume up very high. That would cause distortion that might damage the speaker so it shuts down or turns off.

You will have to disassemble the player sufficiently to gain access to the mechanism. Keep track of all the little parts and how they are installed to make reassembly easier.

To fix the dim brightness level, remove the battery and pull the plug out of the mains power. Leave it disconnected for at least 5 minutes then plug it back into mains power. You should find the brightness has retuned to normal. I have 3 of these Clock Radios and the picture attached shows the comparison between dim and normal. For some unknown reason they intermittently decide to dim themselves. This may be why Sony included a dimmer in the next model up ICF-C318. Anyway I hope this helps
