Prior to installing the radeon 4550 video card i followed the instructions and disabled the onboard video adapter via the device manager. I have the emachine model T6520. After disabling the onboard adapter and installing the new video card i tried to boot up but had no monitor activity. Can you help me.

There are two ways to disable the onboard video:

First Option:
When the machine boots up, watch for instructions such as "Press to enter setup, bios, configuration, ect." Within the BIOS setup should be an option to disable to onboard video. This can usually be found within an Integrated Chipset Features section or a Video section depending on your BIOS. Be careful though, messing with settings that you don't understand can affect your computer negatively.

Second Option:
Assuming you're disabling the onboard video because you have installed a video card, access the device manager by right-clicking "My Computer" and click Manage. Select the Device Manager on the navigation pane on the left, then expand the Display Adapters section. Right-click on your onboard graphics adapter and then click Disable and you're done!

It is best to disable the onboard video electrically via a jumper or dip switch on your computers motherboard or in its system BIOS. Please refer to your computers user guide or contact your computer manufacturer for instruction on this process.
In the event that your system does not support the above, you may be able to disable the onboard video card in the operating system using the instructions below.
Make sure that the new PCI video card is not installed in your computer.
Windows XP/2000
1. Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager button.
3. Click View, and then Show Hidden Devices.
4. Click the Plus (+) sign next to the Display Adapters category to expand it.
5. Select the onboard graphics controller under Display Adapters and click Disable. Click OK to confirm.
6. Do not restart the computer until the controller is disabled.
7. Turn the computer off.
8. Install your PCI GeForce card and follow the included instructions from the card manufacturer.

Most likely what you will want to do is just turn your resolution down to it's lowest settings. and turn off unplug the computer and install the card. Plug the monitor into the card and then boot up the computer. Sometimes depending on the computer you may have to disable the onboard video in the bios but a lot of times you don't. If you do run into an issue you can unplug the card hook the monitor back up the onboard video, then if need be disable the onboard driver, by going to control panel, then system properties, then device manager and then under video adapter disable the drivers for the onboard video but it shouldn't be necessary.

You first needed to uninstall the OLD card via device manager then install the NEW driver for the NEW card--then install the NEW card

try in settings of gpu in bios.....

Boot the system in safe mode. Go to device manager and under display adapters , right click on the onbaord graphics adapter and disable the same. It worked on one of the systems i troubleshot for the same problem.

Confirm the card works in another system to eliminate it as a suspect. Try a beefier power supply in the machine (sometimes these 300 to 350 watt supplies just cant hang when an addon card is installed). Check the BIOS settings and make sure that the PCI Express slot resources are active for the card. If the card uses a power connector, make sure it is connected. Keep us posted.

Go into video settings (control panel- display- settings) Here there should be a drop down box in it you should see you onboard and new video card switch to the new one.

Your Motherboard has an onboard video chipset made by Nvidia. Nvidia and ATI have a history of not playing nice with each other.

I have 2 possible solutions for you.

1.) Remove the Radeon card and use the Nvidia onboard card (Essentially a Geforce 6100)

2.) Enter the bios (Usually done by hitting <Delete> or <F12> while the computer is booting up) Your Motherboards manual can tell you for certain. Then find the options for onboard video and disable it.

Then boot up the PC, When it say starting Windows press <F8> to bring up the windows boot menu. Select "Start in Safe mode" Once this loads up open the device manager, look under "Display adapters" find the entry for the Nvidia adapter, right click on it and select either "Uninstall" or "Disable this device"

Which you choose depends on your personal preference Whether you like Nvidia or ATI boards better.

If it makes your decision easier a Geforce 6100 is roughly equivalent to a Radeon 8500 in performance.
