Look at the middle cover (above the keyboard). there are two buttons that touch the power switch, the one to the left enables/disables the touchpad. If it shows an orange light it is disabled. Just press it, and be careful not to hit it when turning unit on.

    This is dumb. I'm a tech and I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working in Windows, but it worked in DOS. Then you suggested this and it worked! Why it disables itself by default is beyond me. Thanks!

We discovered after much playing that holding down the fn button and F7 works to unlock and locks mouse pad

Plug a USB mouse into any USB port and use this mouse to go into control panel or mouse utility to configure mouse pad, or just use the USB mouse. Check device manager for any error icons.
Sometimes takes a couple of minutes for USB mouse to be recognized.
