Open the top and back covers. If you see any jammed paper or
other item, gently pull it out, then close the covers. If the error message
remains, open and close the covers again. If the FAX/MFC cannot reset
itself and return to the date and time prompt, it will display MACHINE
ERROR XX. Please call Brother Customer Service
and tell them the Machine Error number at:

Although my cover is closed, I keep getting an error message that indicates, "The unit's cover is open. Please close cover." Please help me because I am unable to finish a large print job I have started...

Problem is simple, your system having sensor which indicating that cover is not closed. uncover it once and check sensor push button may be not connection well. recover casing and ensure its not loose.

Msg says printer cover open. Its broken, but closed. Can I copy?

There will be a microswitch that is operated by opening/closing the cover. Presumably the switch will be where you have a piece missing from the top.

You just need to find a way of closing that switch. That can be done mechanically with a piece of tape, or you could short circuit the switch if you can get to the wiring.

I changed the ink in my Lexmark 3400 printer and I keep getting an error message "cover open" and it's not open. I tried everything....unloading the software then reloading the software, shutting it off...

The printer displays a 'Cover open, please close cover' error message, even though the cover is closed.

This can happen if the lever on the cover open sensor is knocked off the switch assembly.

Message on brother MFC7420 "back door open" when it's not

Actually, you need to double check the back cover and front cover, open them all to check all paper jam.
Besure to check the back cover, normally all paper jam is from the back.
be sure to close the front cover at the last cover to close.

"Card-cover open" error message

It's when putting the card in.. typically you put it in and it clicks (so to speak).. if you delay removing your finger-push, it does something to the card and makes a Disconnect, although in looking at it, it looks just fine.. and the cover closes... A lot of people are reporting 'door open' errors. The micro-switch in the door housing is quite sensitive and pressure shifts from your hand on the door can cause it to trigger as if the door were opened. some get progressively worse. One fix is to add a little bit of length to the plastic that contacts the switch, either a layer of tape or a drop of epoxy, etc. This may help (or may not if the switch itself is flaky). Another fix discussed bypassing the switch altogether, obviously not for the faint of heart (or cameras in warrantee).
