Question about Brother Office Equipment & Supplies
Hi - I purchased a Brother MFC 7360N and hooked it up to a PC running XP Pro SP3. I have trouble with scanning - the only way to get a scan to work is to go thru the Control Panel/Camera&Scanner Wizard (then it works but no PDF option). The MFC will not see the PC and the Control Center 4 sfw will not see the MFC/Scanner. Suggestions? (I did the most recent firmware update when installing; printing is fine; copying is fine). I tried first USB connection (did not work) - Uninstalled - then tried ethernet connection setup (same problem). Error code in Control Center 4 is CC4-202-00000008.
Check to see if the scanner works with the Windows built in Scan and Fax utility. If it does, then download this Twain Reset Utility http://support.visioneer.com/utilities/twain_reset.exe and reboot. Try to use the Brother scanning software after the reboot.

THANK YOU!!!! This worked
Works for MFC-J4510DW
Awesome!! Worked for me too! Here is an updated link to the tool however:http://support.visioneer.com/products/To...
Uninstalled, used cCleaner etc with no results. This simple 144kB program fixed it in seconds. Thanks. (MFC-l2720DW, CC4, W7-64)

I had
the same problem with windows 7 and some time ago with vista and after endless
hours found a solution which I can now describe for windows 7 only but It
should also work in a similar way for vista. first of
all download the latest complete mfc installation software from brother
for your mfc printer - this is a big file of more than 120mb. I have installed
the 32bit version although I have win7-64 but generally I have better results with
32bit drivers for general application purpose. also
download the software to delete the pnp drivers delinf_10100.exe. then download
the CCleaner from http://www.piriform.com/
(or if you have registry cleaner then use this - the ccleaner is free and
good). use
windows explorer to examine and delete files and look for this directory (in
win7): c:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Temp. if you
do not find this directory then open: Tools/Folder Options.../View/ and there
make that hidden files and folders are being displayed (the default is hidden). if you
do not even see the menu 'Tools' the go to Organize/Layout/ and activate the
Menu Bar. then Tools will also appear. when you
have finally found c:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Temp then you
can start the work. - empty
your waste basket so it is completely empty - if you
know the procedure then make a new system restore point - delete
all files and folders in c:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Temp\
(only in the Temp_directory) - in control
panel uninstall the existing brother mfc software (do not reboot yet) - run
the downloaded delinf_10100.exe to delete possible pnp drivers (plug'n play) - run
the cclean registry cleaner until you will not find anymore bad registry
entries - turn
off and disconnect the brother device from your pc/notebook - reboot
the system and run the registry again -
install the brother software until it asks you to plug in the usb cable and
turn on the printer - then
wait - the pc is working but unfortunately not showing much of this.... - when
the installation is finished you might have to reboot again - then
you are don and all should be fine (cc4 running and twain driver installed
successfully) good
luck! ron

I followed this procedure today and after 3 months of no scanner or fax it is all up and running as normal again. Thank you Rondald Ron for your great advice.
I recently installed Windows 8. Will this work as well?
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Ron! I have a MFC-J4510DW printer (Windows-7, 64bit), and this procedure worked flawlessly. The only adjustments I made were to select 64-bit on Brother's site, and to use the uninstall file (BrRemPnP.exe) specific for my printer. Sure wish I tried this before I spent so much time with Brother customer support.
Thank you. Did run the cccleaner, and cleaned all files then did a registry cleaning, and the scanner works again now.
I tried this on my MFC-J870DW and it did fix the issue where is wasn't scanning at all, at least now I can scan from my computer. But I am still having an issue where I can't scan using touch display. I keep getting "Failed to connect to device." and after clicking okay I got "Scanning Failed." I could scan from the Control Center but not from the touch display so I downloaded a Twain Reset Utility. Still nothing. Any more suggestions?
You are a BOSS Ron!!!! I thought I had tried everything and have been working on this for hours on my MFC J430W. I saw your response here and I almost didn't try it because I was ready to give up.....but then I said, hey...if this guy has all those steps, there must be something to it. And BOOM...it worked!!! Love ya man!!!
I followed your procedure - exactly as you described - on my MFC-J4510DW (windows 7, 64 bit), after unsuccesfully trying the Brother Support Way and lots of other frustrating magic..... to my utter astonishment it worked, hallelujah, praise the allmighty Lord Ron!!!!!! Thanks an awful lot!!!!

This is caused by your firewall/antivirus you have installed either create a rule and allow it access or reinstall the driver as this will update the firewall/antivirus as part of its installation.

Any update. I have the same problem on my MFC-J430W I have disabled all firewalls and still get the same issue
I am having the same problem as well! All drivers and firmware are up to date and with firewall/anitvirus disabled I get the same message only when I try to scan:
"MFC-7360N cannot be found (CC4-202-00000008)"
Anyone find a way around this? Please help!
I am having the same problem with my new DCP-J140W. Disabled firewall and enabled all services, same problem. I can access the scanner through windows scanner, but not through the cc4
Same problem with me... I m haveDCP-7055 printer scanner... This problem isonly when i scan from Control Centre.
Same problem with CC4 and MFC-J4510DW on Windows 7, 64 bit. But thanks to comments I at least know now I can use windows fax and scan (go Start and search for "Windows fax")
