It will make it possible for your old XP software to run.

I have found that Tally 7.1 rel2.1 is compatible with Windows XP, Windows 7 as well as Windows 8. Try installing this version of Tally and I am sure it will work.

These are the system requirements for Tally 7.2

Recommended Hardware Requirements for Tally 9

Pentium 4 and above or equivalent

256 MB RAM

Minimum Disk Space: 40 MB

Operating System Software: Microsoft Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP

As you can see from this, Tally 7.2 will not work on Windows 7.
