Our canon i990 is repeatedly warning that the waste ink absorber is almost full do you have any idea what it is or how to empty it dan

The waste ink pad holds the excess ink wiped from the printhead. The warning comes very early in some models. You can remove and clean yourself - can be very messy, take in for service - rather costly or use this set of instructions to eliminate the warning. Mine has been disabled for more than a year without any problem.

1. Turn off printer
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.
8. Your printer should respond as normal.

Tank absorber full and lights blinking

The POWER Lamp Flashes Orange Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink tank is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative.

Note
Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the waste ink tank becomes completely full, printing will no longer be possible.

Can you tell me how to empty the waste ink tank on a Canon i990 inkjet printer

There is no ink tank, it's a set of fitted absorbent pads underneath the entire print engine. You need a shop to replace them since you need the service mode to reset the counter and clear the error.

Have a 1 year old Pro9000 thats starting to give

Use a Q-tip and a little water to wipe the wiper assembly on the right side of your machine. Unplug the printer when the carts are in the middle and look to the right with a flashlight. The wipers are supposed to wipe excess ink from the bottom of the printhead.

I am getting a Service error code 5200 on my i990 printer with the message,
Cancel printing and turn the printer off and then back on.
If this doesn't clear the error, see the printer manual for more detail. The manual dosen't help. Can you!
Thanks
