Canon IR C3100n copier "NG 853" error

I cannot make this copier print through the network connection. I can see the unit from Windows and I have connectiov (verified using the PING command on the copier and Windows). However, the network device receives the job, but is automatically posted on the log as "NG #853 error".

Just found what was happening. Install the unit under Windows stating manual print selection and choose "Canon printing device L9100" when asked for. Although the unit can be set to accept LPR or RAW print formats, I solved the issue with the RAW format. But be advised, changing the specification for an installed driver does not work. You will have to assign a new IP address to the unit and start the driver installation from the beggining.

I have this same error ng (#853) on a Canon iR2030. I deleted the printer, restarted the W2003 server, deleted the port, created the printer again, installed the driver, sent a print to it, log report on photocopier LCD screen shows status of OK, but nothing comes out of the photocopier!! Tried over and over again; the whole process; nothing. Absolute rubbish. Had enough and am going Xerox.

I too tried the UFRv1.42_Win2k-XP-2003_INF Driver for the Canon C3100 and it worked superbly .

I had a similar problem with my MF6540. I could access the remote UI and see that the printer was recieving information via the print log. It would list all of my test pages that I tried to print but in the print results column I would get an error code NG(##5536) and the printer would not actually print anything. I tried the UFRII driver stated above and everything seems to be working now.

#853 is when you send a Postscript file (PS Print driver) to a PCL orUFR only printer driver device. PostScript on some products need the license to enable it, so Canon can pass your cash to Adobe for you using PostScript!

According to Canon rep I just spoke with you need to purchase a license before you can print to these. You cant just set them up as a network printer

  • shannon garrett Jul 11, 2011

This is Correct, If this copier does not have a print option installed it will not print no matter how hard you try!

Just an update for ya. I don't know how it relates to network printing, unless it's due to the print driver configuration on the machine printing, but apparently (according to Canon) the NG #853 refers to insufficient memory resources for the printer. I only sent a Windows test page to the printer and still got that, so go figure... Anyway, gonna play around with the drivers and see if I can get it working. Will report back if there's any progress.

I had the same problems with the NG(#853) error.
It was definitely a driver issue, took me weeks to find a compatible 64-bit UFR driver.

I experienced this problem with Canon Image Runner 2520.
Tried with one available from this download link
https://printerdrivers.com/canon-imagerunner-2520-driver/

I had to :-
1. Delete all printers installed, along with their drivers (including from print management)
2. Extract and install from the 64-bit folder.
3. Re-installed to print server, pointing to the same folder in step (2)
4. Performed a print test page, and installed from the user's side to test.
All worked as expected.

No more 853 error, it's all OK in the print Log.

I only noticed that in Job Status - it doesn't show any print logs.
All the print jobs, appear only in 'print logs'.

My next target however is to test using color-network gear, if networked users, can scan !

Otherwise all three IR2520 models in separate departments, works great !Canon IR C3100n copier

Its a timeout for the data being sent, the ufr driver spools the job at the pc.
You can also try turning on network spooling in system settings, network, use spooler on

I was having this problem with a Canon IR C3080 after I upgraded computers and started using Mac OSX 10.8. Previously, with my older system running 10.5, I had been able to print to the Canon with no problems. But since upgrading to 10.8, all the print jobs I sent to the Canon resulted in the #853 error code and with nothing printed. When setting up the printer on my new system, I had selected the Canon IR C3080/3480/3580 PS (US) driver that I had downloaded from the Canon website and installed into my OS. This is the driver that Canon specifies for Mac OSX 10.8. However, after re-setting up the printer, but selecting the Generic Postscript Printer driver (supplied by the OS), my print jobs were accepted by the Canon copier and printed as they should. So if a Generic PS printer driver is available to you, try it instead of the driver supplied by Canon.

I had the same problem and installing the UFRII Driver for the printer did the trick.  There must be a memory management issue with Windows 2003 Server.  Next up, trying to get the scanner software working.

OK, this is not a solution, but we are having the same problem with an iR 3200. I've run packet captures and can see a TCP stream in both directions which indicates it's communicating, but the jobs keep getting the NG #853 error. The Get Status button within the driver properties fails to get anything from the printer, but when I try it, I can see udp traffic flowing in both directions between the server and the printer.
