There's a small "latch" that holds the top of the lid "down". Push to release the latch, and then you can lift the lid, using the "hinge".

HOW TO CHANGE INK CARTRDES IN CANON MG5220

The is covered completely in the Owners Manual. I suggest you download the manual from the Canon support website to have as a reference in the future.

Steps:

1. Open the front paper tray door.

2. Lift the entire top of the printer until it is as high as it will go and locks the brace in place. The ink cartridge carriage will move to the center of the printer. The cartridge needing changing will have a light blinking to indicate it.

3. Push in the back tab on the cartridge and lift it out.

4. Remove the new cartridge (be sure it\'s the right color) from the packaging, remove the plastic clip that protects the ink feed aperature.

5. Push the cartridge into the slit in the carriage and press down on the end closest to you to lock the tab in place.

6. Lift up on the printer top and push the bottom of the brace away from you to unlock it and then lower the lid.

7. the printer will then go through several cycles to realign the cartridges and verify the new one is feeding properly.

8. If more than one cartridge goes dry at the same time, repeat steps 3-5 for all cartridges before lowering the lid.

Good luck!
