I'm afraid that this is a fairly common problem with refilled cartridges. Best to get a new cartridge and try it. Or, if whoever refilled it, guaranteed it, ask for another one.
Hope this helps.

If the machine is just using magenta, yellow and cyan to make black then you get brown, not black, (that why you have a black image unit, because YMC will not make black, color system issue. unless the machine is using yellow, magenta, cyan, then black. Are you using 3rd party toner or OEM cartridges? Did you replace the cartridge before it was required?
Open the cover of the Kodak 5300 printer. Take out the cartridges that are to be reset. Find the filing hole. It will most probably be somewhere on the bottom or the rear of the ink cartridge.Moisten the syringe's needle and push it into the sponge all the way through the filling hole. Make sure you do not apply too much force, as the sponge will likely rip apart and consequently will cause clogs. Keep the ink bottle on a stable surface. The syringe's needle is usually very delicate and thin. Slowly, squeeze the ink bottle to make the ink flow into its sponge. Again, do not apply a lot of pressure or the sponge might expand, which will cause the ink to come out disproportionately during printing.
Squeeze the ink into its sponge until it starts to look moistened. Make sure you do not fill up too much.
Use tissues for wiping the filling hole. Install the refilled ink cartridge on your Kodak 5300 printer. You will hear a click when the cartridge installs at the right place.
The cartridge on the right is the black ink cartridge. The one on the left is the color. Make sure you have pushed the cartridge in all of the way and that you have removed the tape cover from the cartridge before you insert it. If you bought aftermarker or third party cartridges, you have a cartridge that is not filled properly. If you purchased it from a local retailer, return it and try another cartridge. The Hp reads the levels from the gold connectors on the cartridge. If they are blocked, or damaged or the cartridge is not full, you will get this message.
No way 2 override the message.
Printer works on a combination of both black and color ink to print those perfect pictures and documents.
If it is showing color ink needs replacement, you ve 2 change it in order to print even in black and white.
The message that persists in saying to "replace black cartridge" could be due to a defective cartridge chip. The chip maintains counts and tells the printer when a new cartridge is installed. If you cartridge is remanufactured, they may have neglected to install a new chip.
Regarding the new fuser not working, I'll have to get back to you on that.
I want to print in black only and have changed the properties to grayscale, but it still won't let me print in black only. The magenta is out and it says I must replace, but i don't want color! help!
Apparently, if you hold the "resume button" (the one next to the power button) for about five seconds after you get the message saying to replace the color ink cartridge the machine starts printing. I did this after I went to "maintenance" under "preferences" and changed ink to "black only." At first that alone did not work, but after trying the resume button for 5 secs it worked okay.
I have a error message #1203 what is this??????
