To enable bi directional printing: Open Printers and Faxes in control Panel Right Click on the Printers Icon Select PROPERTIES In the Properties dialog box select the PORTS tab Near the bottom there is a check box to enable Bi-directional printing Make sure it is checked Click OK to exit the dialog box
I need to enable bidirectional communication and when I go to printers (HPLJ1020) and select properties I only get 2 tabs to click, general & hardware there are no tabs for ports. How do I get to the proper screen to enable bidirectional communication. Using windows 7 pro on a Dell optiplex desktop 745

Bidirectional Printing - A means of printing by a computer printer which prints one line from left to right, then the following line from right to left. Such printing is faster than printing in one direction only, as there is no need to wait for the carriage or other imaging mechanism to return to the left margin before starting a line. how to enable bi-directional printing.here's how:
-click on start
-click on printers and faxes (control panel->printers and faxes)
-right-click on Dell Photo All in One Printer 964 All-In-One icon
- click on properties
-click on ports tab
-down at the bottom there's a small box before bi-directional support
-tick the box to enable it then click apply,ok
-try printing again
note: in vista , printers and faxes is printers.in win 7 ,it's devices and printers. and properties in win 7 is printer properties
You can do it in printers window of vista or printers and faxes in XP.
right click on the printer icon and select properties
on properties, click on advanced tab.
Put a check mark below "enable bidirectional supports".
Click on Apply and OK.
I have tried to set up this wireless printer on my laptop (windows vista basic). I run through installation and get message - installation complete and the green indicator light is fully on. When I try and print I get message Printer cannot communicate with computer - please turn on 'Enable Biodirectional Communication' in printer properties. I go to control panel/printer/propertie/ports/ and I see Enable Biodirectional communication - the box is grayed out and I cannot enable it. Any suggestions?
In this case click on start and then go to Control Panel on control panel click on printers and then right click on the lexmark default printer which has a check mark on it and click on properties..........
On the properties window click on "Port" Tab and then check the option which says enable bidirectional support..................
Make sure that the "Enable Bidirectional Support" checkbox is checked: Go to "Control Panel"->Printers->Right click on the print Object->Properties under "Ports" tab, enable this check box if not already enabled. If you using vista make sure you do this from an "Admin" account, you may also need to select the "Run as Administrator" option after you right click on the "PrintObject".
