don't know your os, prob. xpsp3, vista or windows 7. if your printer is usb, try unplugging the usb, rebooting laptop- then plug printer usb back in. should get 'new hardware detected' pop-up. follow directions, choose re-install from list, locate your printer, high-lite it and try installing from os files- if that doesn't work- get online to lexmark website, and find your printer model and version #- should be on label under front flap or on back. down load offered software (should be free!) if you have usb stick, download to that then copy to your hdd! then run the install wizard- follow directions! that way, you'll have it on your hdd and backed-up on usb stick!! keep track of your stick, in case you need it again!! (that's the hard part!!) those suckers are easy to misplace. good luck!
The software you need is Abbyy Sprint OCR. If it's not installed, I suggest running the printer setup again, making sure it's selected when you get to the software list. Perhaps you unchecked the box when you ran the installation the first time, or didn't know what it was and uninstalled it from your computer. You may be able to find it by hunting through the CD, but it will probably be easier to run the setup again.
