Unless it has some kind of "child lock" mode, in which case you should see the manual about how to reset it. It sounds to me that there is a fault on the microprocessor that controls the functions. It's not something that could be solved other than by an engineer.

Look around for a service centre for Sherwood on the net. Richer Sounds in the UK sold a lot of these, they might be able to help you.

SOURCE: technics turntable plays but no sound with Sherwood receiver

The problem is the fact that the new receiver has no phono input. The phono input has an extra stage of amplification built in. Your receiver is working fine. You need to purchase a phono pre-amp. These run around $20. Connect the turntable to the preamp and the presmp output to any line level input on your new receiver and everything will work as expected.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections as a root cause for intermittent shutdown.

How do I get the electronic digital display to light up.

Hi Dudley, I would suggest that you try the following reset:

To do the reset you need to turn the receiver on then on the front panel of the receiver press and hold the "VIDEO1/VCR" button while doing that press the "STANDBY/ON" button. You will see the word "Clear" in the display screen and the receiver will go into standby mode. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR AUDIO & VIDEO ASSIGNMENTS ON THE RECEIVER PLUS YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SPEAKER CONFIGURATIONS, SPEAKER DISTANCE AND ALL LEVEL CALIBRATION SETTINGS. YOU WILL ALSO LOSE ANY PROGRAMMED RADIO STATIONS IN MEMORY. Once the receiver goes into standby mode turn it back on and go thru the setup menu for all custom settings.

Thanks, JT

DISH VIP612 Amplifier Control

DISH Solo DVR VIP612 Amplifier / Receiver Control

Would you like to program the Universal Remote that came with your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 to control the volume of your receiver, tuner, or stereo instead of your TV's volume?

e818a57.jpg

The first step in using the Universal Remote Control that came with your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 to control the volume level of your receiver, tuner, or stereo is to program the remote to control your audio device using the AUX mode button.

Once your remote controls your audio device in AUX mode, you probably want to continue to control the volume of your stereo even if the remote is in SAT, TV or VCR mode.

To setup your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote to control the volume of your stereo regardless of which mode it is in, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the AUX button until all the mode buttons are lit, and then let it go.
  2. Press the POUND (#) button.
  3. Press the PLUS side of the VOLUME button.
  4. Press 0.
  5. Press the POUND (#) button. The AUX button flashes three times to tell you the programming is complete.
  6. Confirm the VOLUME buttons are operating the tuner/amplifier's volume control by pressing SAT or TV, and then adjusting the volume. Your tuner/amplifier's volume should change rather than your TV's volume.

Your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote is now setup to control the volume of your stereo regardless of which mode it is in

I hope that helps.

Have noise on left back speaker channel of onkyo 606 blocking sound from movies etc

Hi Brendan, have you swapped the speaker from the left channel to the right one so that we can be sure that it is not the speaker? You can also try a hard reset:

I have a Sanyo standard TV and a RCA universal remote with no display button and way that i know of to get to settings. The

Use an other setup code. Some codes may not work for buttons as they are meant to. Try other codes, and choose one, which have maximum functionality. Never expect a universal remote control will work as the original one.
Codes to check with Sanyo TV are:
0049 0097 0110 0004 0268 0012 0108 0180

Direct Code Entry
  1. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.
  2. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
  3. Enter the 4 digit code from the code tables. Note: after a valid code entry, the red indicator turns off. For an invalid code, the red indicator flashes.
  4. With your device on, press CHANNEL UP. If the device responds, no further programming is required. Note: If some buttons do not operate your device, try one of the other codes for your brand.

Code Search
If after trying "Direct Code Entry" your device does not respond, or if your brand is not listed, try doing a search of the code library for your code by following these steps.
  1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled.
  2. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.
  3. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks once, then stays on.
  4. Press the CHANNEL UP button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device to be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
  5. Press and release MUTE to install the code. The indicator light goes off.
Most users will want to store VCR codes under the VCR button, Cable codes under CBL, etc. If you want to store a VCR code under CBL, etc., first follow the procedure for Direct Code Entry and press CBL in step 2 of Direct Code Entry, then enter ANY VCR code in step 3 of Direct Code Entry. Then follow the steps above for Code Search.

IDENTIFYING CODES FOUND USING THE SEARCH PROCEDURE
  1. Press and hold the SETUP until the LED indicator lights steadily. Release Setup button.
  2. Press the mode button that matches the equipment you want to identify. The LED blinks once.
  3. Press and release SETUP. The LED blinks once.
  4. To find the first digit, press each number button from 0 to 9 until the LED blinks. The number you pressed is the first digit of the code.
  5. Press each number button from 0 to 9 again as above to find the second digit.
  6. Press each number button from 0 to 9 again as above to find the third digit.
  7. Press each number button in turn to find the fourth digit. When the fourth digit has been found, the LED goes out.

The receiver goes on standby mode when volume is high

Your receiver is basically going into protect mode.

The SR 605 contains a microcomputer for signal processing and control functions. In an unlikely event, it may cause it to lock up. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait for 10 to15 seconds and then plug it back again.

Please also check your speaker cabling again. Make sure that all of them are seated properly, none is touching each other or the body of receiver. Take out all the wire and put them back again if necessary..
Some times even a little tiny frayed wire touching the receiver could trigger the protect mode. Be careful, since protect mode is sometimes not fast enough and it could blown a few trasistors in the power circuit.
Just check your speaker as well....whether they play all right thru another receiver or amplifier. its posiible they might be shorting inside. A little frayed wire could also trigger the protect circuit in your receiver.
I hope this should solve your problem. If you still can’t resolve the issue yourself, try resetting
the AV receiver/AV amplifier before going on to opening the Receiver.
To reset the Receiver to its factory defaults, turn it on and, while holding the [VCR/DVR] button, press the [STANDBY/ON] button. "Clear" will appear on the display and the Receiver will enter Standby mode. (note that resetting your receiver will delete your custom settings as well as your radio presets).

If everything else seems all right and still your receiver shut down when you raise the volume then it possible that there are bad connections on the main board that are set in.

This would generally happen if the system is slighly old or have dry solder and when you raise up the volume. This should be a simple repair that will not require parts. If you can solder, you will be able to repair this yourself. If not, then a local service center will change the local labor rate.

Hope you can sort out your problem with the above trouble shooting. Let me know if I can guide you further.
Best of luck. Thanks for using FixYa!
