You probably should include some extra information here. (do you get a dial tone? Faxing from the glass or the Auto Document Feeder? Long distance? Do you have another phone that you could "listen in" to the fax call from?)

I can tell you that ADF stands for Automatic Document Feeder though.

Need instructions for sending a 10 page fax. I do not have a GETTING STARTED GUIDE. Is there a way to download a copy of the GUIDE? OR will you provide help?

Dear Joan
since the model was not mentioned its difficult to say but in most cases the fax is having a ADF (automatic document feeder). Few of then scan the face downward and other face upward.
test yourself by putting the document at ADF face upward and copy it, if copy comes as original, then put all 10 pages face upward in the ADF. press OHD(on hook dial) or SPK PHONE, dial the fax no. get the the fax Rx tone press START. Also you you can dial the fax no. and press start from memory.(as it will scan to memory and then fax).
Thanks.

Incomplete transmission error report on my mx450

Is this a new problem with a new printer, or did faxes used to work okay until now?

Incomplete transmission means fax could not be sent. Many causes.

1. Error on recipient's end or in phone line (fax machine down, too much line noise, etc.)

2. Bad phone cord or bad phone jack on your end.

3. Make sure the phone cord from the wall is securely plugged into the right telephone port on the printer. There are 2 jacks; the important one is lableled "L" for telephone Line In. The other port (with a telephone symbol next to it) is optional, and is to connect to a telephone (only works if you have a phone line already plugged into :L" port).

  2. Adjust fax settings as necessary.

  3. Start faxing.

    1. Dial the recipient's number using the numeric buttons or coded speed dialing.

Note: Color sending is available only when the recipient's fax machine supports color faxing.

    3. If the document was loaded on the Platen Glass, the following message will appear. Load the next page on the Platen Glass.

Adjusting the Scan Contrast or the Image Quality (Fax Resolution)
Adjusting the Scan Contrast

Contrast is the degree of difference between light and dark. Increasing the scan contrast setting further blackens dark areas and whitens bright areas, whereas decreasing the contrast setting reduces the difference between bright and dark areas. You can adjust the contrast among three contrast levels.

  1. Press the button.

  2. Press the button.

  3. Press the (left) or (right) button to select the contrast.

    ug_faxing87.jpg

  4. Pressing the l_mark.jpg (left) button decreases the contrast, and pressing the r_mark.jpg (right) button increases the contrast.

  5. Press the button.

Adjusting the Image Quality (Fax Resolution)

You can adjust the image quality (fax resolution) of the document you send. The higher you set the image quality setting, the better the output quality will be at the other end, but the longer it will take for the transmission. Adjust the image quality according to the type of document you are sending.

  1. Press the button.

  2. Press the button two times.

  3. Press the l_mark.jpg (left) or r_mark.jpg (right) button to select the resolution.

No fax transmission

Plug the phone line into the plug marked L on the back, make sure you are dialing the full number, The fax won't work in an office with digital phone service, you need an analog phone line like at home. In fax setup you need the type of dialing set properly, tone or pulse dialing, check also with Canon support, 1-800-828-4040

Every Fax we send has stripes going down it making it hard for the receiver to read our faxes. It doesn't happen when we receive fax, print or make copies.

You say it makes copies without the stripes. Do you use the automatic document feeder (ADF) when you make copies, or open the top and lay the paper on the platen? If you get stripes when using the ADF, the ADF scanner area needs to be cleaned. It's the smaller glass area to the left of the main platen glass. Use a damp cloth and remove any dirt or debris.

HP Office Jet 6110 All in One faxing

This document covers the basic fax functions of the HP Officejet 6100 series. The HP Officejet 6100 series can perform the following functions:
  • Send and receive paper faxes.
  • Send and receive color faxes. Color faxes can be sent only to color fax capable machines. If a color fax is sent to a black-and-white only fax machine, the HP Officejet sends the fax in black and white.

  2. Enter the fax number using the keypad. Dial the number just as you would from a telephone (dialing 1 before an area code, etc.)
  3. Press Start Fax Black or Color.
  4. If there is no original in the ADF, the display will read, "Send from Glass? Press 1 for Yes or 2 for No"
