The color images have vertical banding or streaking but the text appears fine. the occasional blace and white image doesn't seem to have this. what can we do to fix the problem? thanks!
Good lunk attempting to follow solution #1, intended for an ink jet printer. LOL!
It seems like you are low on toner for one of the cartridges.
First, try taking out a color toner cartridge, hold it horizontally, and shake end-to-end. This loosens any possible clumps of toner and reactivates static charge between the particles. Repeat this for each color.
Second, print a color page with each toner color separate. For example, a line of cyan text, a line of yellow text, and a line of magenta text. This will help isolate which cartridge has the problem.
Third, check the toner level of each problem cartridge. There is a little clear window on the cartridge you can use for this purpose. Hold the cartridge vertically and tilt slowly toward the side with the window. If you pass a 45 degree angle before the toner appears in the window, it is nearing empty and must be replaced or refilled (yes, refilling is an option). Otherwise, there is likely a different problem, for which I only recommend replacing the cartridge.
Don't forget to empty the waste toner bottle (responsibly, of course). By the time you run low on toner in one of your cartridges, it will likely be nearing capacity.
