I had a nasty paperjam that came out piece by piece. It seemed cleared so I tried printing again. No luck. It says it's jammed but I can't find evidence of it.
The page pulls in fine and starts to go through the printer and even through the "heater" where the toner is melted and then the "jam" light comes on. I open the back of the printer and the page is just sitting there unstuck, unwrinkled. It's like it just won't go up to come out of the printer. If it fed about another inch I could pull it out of the top. I don't understand it.
That's the most obvious thing and I've done that. People that can find this site should know to do that. That's the most obvious thing and I've done that. People that can find this site should know to do that.

Most larger printers like yours have an optical sensor that needs to have the paper pass by in order for it to send the "sent" signal. If the paper doesn't trigger that you get the paper jam error. look at this page http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/laser/47953#1
it will tell you what and where to check for your problem. It has photos and videos. I hope this helps some.
Solve Print Job errors
Printer software 'queues' your print jobs, and if one job fails, this can prevent others from being printed. Check to see if there's a document holding up the print queue.
Click the Start button and click Control Panel then Devices and printers. Double-click your printer.
Look at the Status column to see if a print job has failed.
Right-click the failed print job and select Cancel from the pop-up menu.
Click Yes when asked to confirm. This will delete the job and get the queue moving again.

This occured on a company Dell 1700n. I couldn't work out what it was at first because the paper was not jammed and the rollers appeared to be fine. I removed the printer tray, pulled on the feeder mechanism (it's hinged with a spring and lowers into the tray to press against the paper) in a downwards motion and there was initial resistance followed by freer movement (and a slight click). After replacing the tray and powering on again it appears to work.
Presumably that feeding arm mechanism gets stuck sometimes. Some WD40 on the joint would probably also help as a maintainence procedure.
First you reomve your toner and see is ther any paper inside if you are able to open the back cover just open it and try to remove the paper from drum assembly.

1Open the upper-front cover and remove the toner cartridge.2 Look into the printer. Remove any jammed sheets of paper that you find there.
If the print job only consisted of this one page, reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover. Press the button to clear the error, and then try printing again.
If the print job consisted of more than one page, confirm the entire paper path is clear before printing again. Do the following:
If you do not find any jammed pages there, reinstall the tray and go around to the back of the machine. Open the upper-rear cover and look there.
If the entire paper path appears to be clear, close the rear cover and power off the printer. Reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover. Power the printer back on. If a 200 error continues on power up, a sensor in the printer may be malfunctioning. This will require a service call to correct the issue. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for additional information (see Contacting Lexmark Technical Supportbelow for details).
If your printer for any reason reports a paper jam, withput going through the "clearing paper jam" procedure it may not respond to print command. So follow the procedure below:-
Clearing paper jam in a printer is simple almost seven step
procedure depending on the printer. Paper jam is the term used to refer to the
scenario where your paper fails to come out of the printer during the print
process. When you send a document to the printer, normally the printer prints
out the document on a paper; then you can pick up your printed copy. When the
paper gets stuck in the printer, it is said that paper has jammed in the
printer "paper jam".
Even if you are not a technical person, you can conveniently
clear paper jams. All you need is to follow the set of procedures outlined
below.
First, lift the top of the printer up past the sensor. This usually resets it or try turning it off, waiting a minute or two and then turning it back on. If this doesn't clear it and it the paper doesn't move through the printer straight, there is a small torn bit of paper somewhere that must be removed. Good Luck!
You can try using the next heavier weight of paper, or the next lighter weight. Not uncommon for laser printers to start jamming when humidity changes.
hi there: we have the same printer and we had the same paper jam problem to correct: this we opened it up as normal and than got a flashlight and looked real closley at it and there was a verry small piece of paper in the side of it folded and caught in it we took a pair of tweezers and removed it and the paperjam was cleared try that ok the smallest piece will give you this error and wont continue untill it is cleared
best of luck mike
the sensor is on the back of the fuser, it's the small black plastic piece that the paper hits as it passes through. (or is supposed to) online suppliers have this part for under $40 us. it's an exit sensor.
1-paper is most likely stuck in the fuser, (where it exits and gets hot) you will have to remove it
2-it would be better to clean the rollers w/ alcohol then inside out.
There is a sensor in the back that lets the printer know the paper has exited the fuser. It is probably broken off if paper is getting stuck back there.
Also check for paper remnants that are jammed. This may require removal of the fuser.
If it?s always in the same spot then you can narrow your search for the problem.
-Look where the leading edge of the paper is getting jammed up for an obstruction, especially if the paper is folded in an accordion fashion. Look closely, I?ve fixed many a paper jam by pulling out a corner of a page stuck in a recess.
-If the paper path is clear then the next thing I would suspect is the paper you are using.
-Try new paper that isn?t bowed, folded or curled. Before inserting into the paper try flex it back and forth along the width and length, then insert making sure to slide the two side guides and the back guide until they fit snugly against the stack of paper.
-Other things to check are the rollers where the leading edge of the paper is getting stuck. Make sure they are clean.
-Also make sure your toner cartridge is inserted into the printer correctly. If you have a spare try using that, sometimes cartridges can drag on the paper.
Some questions first:
-Where in the paper path is it jamming?
-Is it always in the same spot or does it vary?
-Roughly how many pages have you printed with this printer?
-Did anything lead up to this or has it progressively gotten worse?
That's the most obvious thing and I've done that. People that can find this site should know to do that.
