Hope it helps,
Insert a Memory Stick into the Memory Stick slot in the left
side of the PSP. Depending on how much music you want it to hold, you
may need to get a larger one than the stick that came with your system.
Turn on the PSP.
Plug
a USB cable into the back of the PSP and into your PC or Mac. The USB
cable needs to have a Mini-B connector on one end (this plugs into the
PSP), and a standard USB connector on the other (this plugs into the
computer).
Scroll to the "Settings" icon on the home menu of your PSP.
Find
the "USB Connection" icon in the "Settings" menu. Press the X button.
Your PSP will display the words "USB Mode" and your PC or Mac will
recognize it as a USB storage device.
If there isn't one
already, create a folder called "PSP" on the PSP Memory Stick -- it
shows up as "Portable Storage Device" or something similar -- (you can
use Windows Explorer on a PC, or Finder on a Mac).
If there isn't one already, create a folder called "MUSIC" inside the "PSP" folder.
Drag and drop image files into the "MUSIC" folder just as you would save files in another folder on your computer.
Disconnect
your PSP by first clicking on "Safely Remove Hardware" on the bottom
menu bar of a PC, or by "ejecting" the drive on the Mac (drag the icon
into the trash). Then unplug the USB cable and press the circle button
to return to the home menu.

You need to make sure the music your putting onto the PSP is in MP3 format. Other then that here is the steps to make sure your uploading the music properly:
To get everything working, plug the Sony PSP into the Windows PC via
USB cable, plug the PSP into the wall, then turn both units on. On the
PSP, click the "USB Connection" button (on the Settings menu) and,
hopefully, your PC will beep and tell you that it's found a new
"removable disk": your PSP.
Using Windows Explorer, find the new PSP device and if there isn't
already a folder named MUSIC then create it and drop in MP3
format music files
Then at this point you should be able to access the music on your psp. .
If you already have them music files (*.mp3 are best, some others will also work) then simply connect your PSP to your Computer, and in Windows Explorer when it appears go the folder X:\PSP\MUSIC, where X is the drive letter of your MS. If the folder's not there, create it. Then, put all your Music Files in there and they will appear on the PSP. You can create folders inside the Music folder, but only down to two levels, or you won't be able to see the music on your PSP. IF you don't have the files, you can get them from any number of places on the internet, and repeat the above steps. If you are downloading them direct to your PSP, from the PSP's Internet Browser, change the destination folder from PSP\COMMON to PSP\MUSIC, if it hasn't already done that for you.
