Smudge mark along entire right side of every page.

I recently purchased the HP 1600 color laser printer, and am very disappointed. I also purchased a full set of cartridges. After exactly one (1) page of printing it stopped printing stating the black cartridge was empty! I was able to override that error; but now every page has a smudge-streak running from top-to-bottom on the right side (as you're looking at the page) of every page, and the printer is giving me a loud clicking noise as it prints.
I could live with the clicking, but I need a solution to the smudgey problem.
Thank you.

Thanks for the swift reply. I bought it brand new. I think I may have resolved it, however. I moved the printer to a different table and it now works fine! I think it may not have been "perfectly" level.
    Thank you again.

Did you purchase it new? If so, what's the warranty length on it? HP warranty is usually one year. Also, did you make sure all of the shipping clips and seals are out of the cartridges? The smudge-streak, is it black?

HP 1600 is quite a decent little printer, so you shouldn't be dissapointed - if it's working properly, which clearly it's not in this case.

It seems that you have 2 problems here.

Firstly it shouldn't click loudly, so you need to be talking to whoever you bought the printer from.

The smudging - is probably a dirty fuser.
There are laser printer cleaning sheets, that will work quite well, but ideally it needs a little bit of dismantling to get at the fuser to clean the two fuser rollers.

I've seen lots of these with dirty fusers, and a clean with IPA does the trick.

HP LaserJet 1600 When I print a page, the red comes out as as orange - sometimes only at the top but, today, on the left although the right was OK. There is plenty of ink in all the cartridges.

Hi there, Your laser unit is dirty which will cause your colors to be faint on some sides. This is normally thing and the Printer just needs to be serviced and the laser unit needs to be cleaned. So i would advise taking it to a Service Agent or Computer shop to have it cleaned.

Samsung scx5315f printing black smudge along edge of page

The fact that it's printing anything suggests that it is not a Toner problem. Remove the toner, and have a look at the run inside the printer, checking for any excess toner which is in there. Also, check the Drum and Imaging Unit for damage, wear and tear etc. There will also be a static strip near the imager, with a little tab which you can sweep across the unit to clean it.

HP Laserjet smudges across entire page

More than likely you have a bad toner cartridge.

Black smudge marks along left side edge of paper.

Its probably a defective toner. If the film on the toner drum is scratched it can cause toner to stick to the drum everytime it spins causing the constant marks.
