On my Sony DCR-TRV9, during playback/record mode with the screen flipped open for viewing will not provide any video or audio. When I close the screen and look thru the viewfinder the images are fine while viewing the recordings or taping new stuff. During playback, with screen open, when I look through the viewfinder I can see the video but it looks as if it skips every 5 seconds or so, if I close the screen and look thru the viewfinder there is no skipping. Any ideas for a fix??? Thanks..Don

SOURCE: picture and sound is skipping
The "solution" by raymw is only helpful for those making new recordings. It does nothing for people like myself with 57 tapes to convert to DVD, They either work OK, or very badly.
I've got about 10 Hi-8 analog tapes that I'm playing in a separate analog unit, using the S-video and RCA audio inputs into the Digital-8 camcorder. The Digital-8 player will record and play back well into iMovie on a Mac if I DON'T MOVE THE DIGITAL-8 CAMCORDER. I'm guessing that something is loose after all these years of use, and if you record and play back without moving the camcorder, it will work out. I stumbled upon this when a tape that played well one day would not play the next day after a car trip. In frustration, a smack to the camcorder made it play better.
For my Digital-8 collection, I'll do an analog dub into the Hi-8 analog recorder, and then the above procedure back to Digital-8 and then into the Mac. This gets around the picture and sound skipping VERY badly going Digital-8 to Mac directly, to only slightly badly on the video.
Any comments on the theory of something getting loose, and what we can potentially tighten?

DCR-TRV250 Sony camcorder needs Tape Path Adjustment to provide you correct sound because due to wrong alignment of tape drive on video-head, nosiy audio is being read and processed.
