Upper refrigerator light went off. Lower freezer light stayed on. I pulled the power cord and then plugged it back in. The upper refrigerator light came back on and the temperature for the refrigerator registered 51 degrees. The same event happened a second time. I removed and the restored the power. again the system indicated refrigerator 51 degrees. On both occasions the temperature of the refrigerator and freezer cooled to the correct temperatures. Approximately twelve hours has elapsed since the last correction and both the freezer and refrigerator appear to be working normally. It seems as though an intermittent problem is developing... perhaps on a particular circuit board. I would appreciate your input on how to handle the problem. The unit is about two and one have years old.

Hello Tony - your diagnosis is most like correct. Unfortunately you are now having to wait as no tech can scope out your appliance while it is still working fine. I have seen appliances do this same thing and still be aok years later. good luck with yours. Regards, Joe
PS if it is under an extended warranty call for a service call so that is on the record.

Yesterday our power went off for 6 hrs. Now it is back on but our freezer isn't working but the inside ligt works it is modelGSS201ETA

Hopefully you didn't have a surge or a brown out that damaged your compressor. The quickest way to check is to pull your refrigerator out and remove to lower cover on the bottom to expose your compressor. Unplug your refrigerator for a minimum of 5 minutes, turn the temperature down for the refrigerator, then plug it back in and wait a couple minutes. If your compressor is running, the upper copper line going to it should be colder than the lower copper line. The lower copper line should be warm to hot. If it's not, your compressor is not running. If this is the case, you'll need to decide if you want a repair person to come out and look at it or you want to buy a never refrigerator. Either way, file a claim with the electrical company and they might admit fault and pay you because this kind of stuff happens alot more than you think.

The internal lightbulb stays on when door is closed & has melted the light cover. How do I fix this problem?

I would say the light switch is stuck or "welded" contacts. In my ge, the light switch is in the upper part so that the switch moves up into the upper right surface when the upper right part of shelf slides against this switch. The sliding part of the switch may be dirty or perhaps broken off. so the switch stays on all the time. My freezer side has the same switch arrangement. Look at your freezer side to see what the switch looks like and how it is supposed to work. Appliance parts sites usually have parts and instructions for how to replace.

The upper fan behind the freezer box does not start-up. How can I tell if it is the fan or if it is something else causing the problem?

Hi!!

Unplug power cord and remove the back freezer wall, usually 4 screws or clips. (If equipped with ice maker, turn water supply off and remove ice maker first), unplugg fan electrical connector, plug power cord back into wall outlet and check for 120v AC, if power is present fan is defective, replace.

You can by the fan at almost any hardware store or appliance parts center, price runs about $20.

Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!!

Kenmore 106.536323000 S/S: Not Cooling Enough

YOU HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM. FROST HAS BUILT UP SOMEWHERE AND THE FAN CAN'T BLOW PAST THE BLOCKAGE. OR ONLY A SMALL SECTION OF YOUR COILS IN THE FREEZER ARE COOLING DUE TO A CLOGGED FILTER OR BAD COMPRESSOR. PULL THE BACK COVER FROM INSIDE THE FREEZER AND LOOK AT THE COILS. THEY SHOULD HAVE A LIGHT FROST AVER THE ENTIRE COIL.IF IT IS A BIG BLOCK OF ICE YOU HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM.

Refrigerator is not cold but freezer is still operating.

Couple things, both doing with air flow. If the fan in the lower freezer isn't working there will be no cold air moved into the upper fridge. If the defrost cycle happens to be dead then the coils down there will freeze solid and there can be no air flow over them to cool the upper area. You'll have to pull the lower drawer out and take off the interior rear panel to check these things. Hopefully it's just that the fan motor went out. It's real easy to change. Let me know what you find, if the coil is all iced up solid then there's more things you need to look into.
