Question about Maytag MFD2560HES Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator
My refrigerator is no longer getting cold although it sounds like the compressor is running. This has been the case for about 2 days now. The freezer (bottom mount) is still working fine. Any ideas? This refrigerator was purchased in April of 2005, so is less than 2 years old.
Couple things, both doing with air flow. If the fan in the lower freezer isn't working there will be no cold air moved into the upper fridge. If the defrost cycle happens to be dead then the coils down there will freeze solid and there can be no air flow over them to cool the upper area. You'll have to pull the lower drawer out and take off the interior rear panel to check these things. Hopefully it's just that the fan motor went out. It's real easy to change. Let me know what you find, if the coil is all iced up solid then there's more things you need to look into.

If the refrigerant level is really low and the coils were REALLY dirty and not releasing heat I guess it "could" be possible. Cleaning will always improve how efficient it is but shouldn't really stop the cooling process like that. Oh, the energy saver switch is to allow electric heaters to keep the door seal areas warm so they don't get moisture forming water droplets on them. In dry areas, with low humidity OFF is OK, in the wetter areas of the country ON is preferred to keep the sweating down.

Hi Kirk Huggins - Do you hear the compressor running? The compressor is constantly meant to go on and off frequently to keep unit at a constant temperature. If you do not, the refrigerator could possibly have a coolant leak or an issue with the internal sealed system including a faulty compressor or evaporate fan. Contact a professional to accurately pinpoint any potentially more serious issues and to assist with the repairs.
Hi,
Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.
If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.
If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...
Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Thanks for the reply. I checked the fan (took off the bottom panel in the back) and it was definitely working. There was no ice forming on the coils.
While I was back there, I did notice that the coils at the bottom of the fridge (accessed via the faceplate at the bottom front of the fridge) were covered in dust. I used a vacuum to clean these off. I also turned the Energy Saver switch off (not sure if that's related).....
But, after plugging the fridge back in (following the cleaning of the coils) - everything now works. I also turned the energy saver switch back on and it still works (after 2 days).
So, maybe I shouldn't care, but it would be really nice to now what fixed it, since if I don't it's sure to happen again.
Any ideas what might have cured the problem (can dusty coils really prevent a fridge from cooling?) Thanks.
frig not working freezer is-purchased in april 2005-interesting that others have had same problem in same amount of time-help
new kenmore refrigerator 253 7 months old. The freezer is perfect but the refrigerator is not getting cold?
This refrigerator has developed a very loud vibrating noise when the compressor runs. What's causing this?
