fridges/freezers have a defrost cycle. if this is not working the coils freeze up and ice over, then nothing cools anymore.
Empty both sides, unplug the fridge, leave all doors open for a day. if there is water on the bottom of the freezer and now it will work (for a while), there is your problem, no auto de-icing.
this fan needs to run when the compressor runs, check fan blade for being jammed by ice if you have this much ice on back wall as ice will stall motor,if no fan there will be no cool air to refrige compartment also the defrost drain tray will fill with water then freeze over which in turn floods the freezer floor and refrige compartments cause it cannot drain to the pan in the bottom
Hi I have same unit. Problem is the fridge circulator fan gradually ices up, becomes noisy and then stops when frozen up. To fix quickly you need to remove all shelves drawers etc, then unfasten lower panel fixings and find the whole back is full of ice including the fan. Remove panel , and de-ice fan etc until fan rotates freely. Replace and all will be OK. Otherwise empty and defrost normally but be prepared for a long wait Don't call an engineer he will just do same. Hope this helps
A lack of refrigerant or a compressor problem might be the cause of freezer low efficiency but that is unlikely to blame for the buildup of ice in the refrigerator.
A certain amount of ice is normal and initially in the evolution of the fridge there was a need for routine deicing, typically just a few times each year. Later a heating element was included to ease the task of defrosting.
These days the heating element is now automatically switched on briefly every time the cooling cycle finishes and the resulting water drained into a cup mounted on the compressor. The heat from the compressor evaporates the water and the fridge remains frost-free.
I expect your fridge should be frost free and clearly the auto defrost is not working. This shouldn't be a great problem and if everything else was good it would just mean routine deicing like the early days. Clearly everything else is not good and the buildup of ice is much more than normal.
Assuming it isn't caused by an elementary mistake like placing hot food in the cabinet there are two main causes of excessive ice buildup - one is a defective door seal and the other is failing cabinet insulation, the latter marked by the compressor needing to run longer to maintain a low temperature and parts of the outside of the cabinet feeling "chilly".
This is a bad design flaw, the fridhe is cooled by fan forced air from the freazer. Two ducts vent into and out of the fridge fron the freezer and ice can block them up (which you can find if you take off all the plastic at the top and back of the fridge). Hence, when they block up, the frindge does not cool, hence the thermostat tells the fridge to keep running which makes the freezer colder and colder, making the blockage worse.
You need to not only fully defrost the freezer (which can be done quicker by removing the plastic panel in the back of the freezer and using a hairdryer) BUT also fully dry the fridge before turning it back on. To stop it happening again, avoid puting unvovered liquids or hot items in the fridge. Also avoid leaving the fridge and freezer doors open for long especially in humid conditions. As I said, it's a bad design.
In my case, the solution was to empty the freezer side, to access a back panel INSIDE the freezer covering the fan and cooling coils. Two screws held the back panel cover on, and when I removed the panel cover I found the cooling coils to be totally iced up, preventing the flow of cold air into the fridge side. I left the freezer open for a few hours until all the ice was melted, before replacing the inside panel. (I used a blow dryer to help speed up the ice melting).
Everything's working fine now for me - good luck with yours!
If the frozen side is colder than normal and some extra frost is forming where the fan blows, and there is ice in the bottom of freezer compartment, and the cool side is not cool enough, their is a good possability the defrosting unit is not removing all the frost and ice . the defrosting unit has a timer (usually near thermostat) that turns off the cooling fan and compressor and turns on a small heater around the evaporator ( about 20 minutes every 2 days) (evaporaror is cold heat exchanger coil inside the back wall behind a cover near the recirculating fan0, the fan circulates air to both compartments through two small openings, if these openeing are closed by ice buildup cool air can not circulate to the cool side. cure 1. remove all food and leave fridge off for 24 hours with doors open (take precautions to ensure children can't get locked in side and suffocate, if you get a qt of water in bottom of unit (may leak on floor) ice buildup that the defrost heater can not remove melted and was your problem . turn frig on replace food on unit. cure 2. turn frig off, remove food from both sides, remove shelves that block access to evaporator, remove cover over evaporator if you see the evaporator coils free of ice look at openings (2) to other side, one may be blocked with ice the other with frost, carefully melt ice with hair dryer.
If the evaporator coil is solid ice heater or timer or fan has failed. good luck
First of all Give me model# and Serial#.
you will most likely have to replace main control board and evaporator fan motor. They have had a service bulletin out on this problem.
not cooling properly
