If that filter element is too loose either put a layer or two of black electrician's tape around the outer edge, all the way around. Then try the fit, it should be snug, not immortal.

The ball on my dc25 will only rotate about half a revolution in either direction. How can I fix it?

There are different things that may cause this, you will need to inspect closely as you move the ball back and forth to see where it is hitting something. Start by making sure the exhaust filter is seated properly.

My Dyson DC 25 has a yellow ball that rolls for maneuvering the vacuum while using it to vacuum. The yellow ball gets Jamed and won't roll .

Hi Robert, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC25's ball seems to be jammed and won't rotate freely, it's likely that the post-motor filter housed inside the ball is out of place, and is catching on the ball shell. This is easy to resolve - the video below shows how to remove and replace both filters:

I'm confident this will resolve the issue - replacing the post-motor filter by pushing it into place until you hear a click from the red catch should ensure it remains in position.

If after trying this you notice that the post-motor filter repeatedly comes out of position in use, this is something we should be able to help with - you'd just need to give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU)

What to do if I have a over heating motor

The ball is jammed because the spring inside which holds the filter has become stretched. Open the Door on the ball and squash the button on the filter down. Then refit filter. Refit window on ball

Why would the filter in the ball keep unlatching while vacuming? The ball get hot also.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Please be assured it's normal for the Ball to become hot in use. This is where the motor is housed, to give the vacuum a low centre of gravity. The motor will generate heat as it runs, but it's protected by a sensor which will shut the vacuum down for protection if it starts to overheat.

However, the HEPA post-motor filter should stay in place in use. It's worth checking the filter is correctly in place, as shown in the video below. Press the filter firmly down into place until you hear an audible 'click' from the release catch:

If you're confident the filter is still coming out of place in use, despite being correctly and securely fitted, we should be able to help you further. Please give our experts a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

When starting up the Filter in the Ball POPS and detaches from housing

Hi Denis,

I am very sorry to hear about this issue with your DC24 post-filter ejecting. This issue is usually due to a clogged filter building pressure within the ball of the machine. At this time, soak the post-filter in cold water (no soap, detergent or warm/hot water) for 10-12 minutes then rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear and leave to dry at room temperature until completely dry. After this is done, insert the filter back into the vacuum and test for resolution.
If this issue persists, please contact our US Dyson Helpline toll-free at 1(866) 693-9766 or our UK Support colleagues at 0800 298 0298. We hope this issue is resolved as soon as possible.

Best wishes,

Jay

It is making a whistling sound and is losing suction

Make sure the top (above the cones) and the bottom (ball) filters are clean. The whistling sound is due to the bottom filter either being clogged or poorly seated and the air is escaping around the rubber seal, making the whistling sound.
