Capacitors going bad on your DM or FMT board. Very difficult to replace, but Mits does a rebuild on the chassis. I recommend talking to your Mits service center and getting the rebuild done.

Picture has shadowing or ghost like images

This unit is getting distortion form the video circuits, most likely capacitors or resistors causing distortion to the input or output circuits. This problem could be caused by a bad video amplifier also ,which is distorting the signal. This problem needs to be checked with an oscilloscope to follow the signal path and find the source of the distortion. Usually this is best handled by a service center. If the unit is still under warranty call this number for Insignia customer help : 1-877-467-4289. If the unit is not under warranty, you should take it to a service center and have an estimate of the problems and repair costs. You can find parts for this television at the Best Buy parts website. Just google it and put in the number of your television and it will list all available parts and prices. You can also call this number for Best Buy parts : 1-888-237-8289. Hope this helps you with your problem.

TV turns on and then, after a few seconds, picture changes to "double vision".

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Picture bounce or flutter

In case there is a loose connection and the convergence board is not damaged. This is what I did and worked out "perfect".
My Mitsubishi HDTV Medallion 1080 has been with us for about 7 years.
The TV started showing distortioned colors and images and even when I used the convergence options from the main menu, it would not show clear images until it would be working for around an hour or if we would hit it until the image would fix. It got worst over the time at a point that it would require 2-3 hours working and several punches and kicks.
No doubt dust has done it's job, well, a vacum with a brush end can help resolve the problem.
1. Make sure the TV is off and disconnected from power.
2. Remove the rear cover at the back (it is clear wood colored and is at the lower part of the cabinet)
3. Using a vacum with a brush end, vacum all the dust that you will find. Be cautious not to hit the components and do not or apply preassure while doing the work
4. On the left side, you will see a card over a mother board, make sure to vacum it well and that it is well inserted in the slot (I did apply some preassure to make sure it was fully inserted)
It took me around 15 minutes and my tv is working like NEW.
While you are removing the dust with the vacum, you may want to vacum the 3 lenses as well, again, using the vacum, no need to clean them with a cloth. I saw a thick layer of dust over them and could remove it easily with the vacum.
Hope this will work for you.
