Loud noise with belt protection system On

On the DC14 there is knob to have belt protection system on or off. When in off mode there is no noise but as soon as I turn it on there is a loud noise. Also in off mode it does not seem to pick-up hair from the carpet.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. The knob you're describing is the brush control, which turns the brushbar on when set to 'Carpets', and off when set to 'Hard floors'. The machine may not pick up hair from carpets if you have it set to 'Hard Floors'.

The brush control system is also designed to make a ratcheting sound to warn you if something is jamming the brushbar. The easiest way to check for and remove any obstructions is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=668&product=DC14-ALLFLOORS_US

Once you've removed any threads, hair and other obstructions from around the brushbar and cleaner head, you should find this resolves the issue. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, please get in touch with us directly so we can help. You can call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

Jack

I need to change my sweeper belt on my Dyson 14 Animal

When turned on and set to sweep the sweeper makes a loud noise like it has something stuck in it but the brush is turning abut not does not have a lot of sucking power. It started the other day when a blanket with tassels got caught and wund up in the brush and sucked up in the sweeper a bit. Tried to pull out while running and came out but made the loud noise. If I take off the brush then it does not make the noise when on. I think it might be the belt grooves are worn and slipping when the sweeper is in the sweeping on mode. Sorry, do not know the technical sweeper terms.

Brushes not moving

The DC14 has a "brush control system" operated by a knob on the right side of the base. This knob has two positions: "bare floors" (or "off") and "carpet" (or "auto"). The motor turns the roller only when the knob is on "carpet", and even then only when the handle is tilted back (with the base still flat on the floor). Make sure the knob is in the correct position.
Next possibility is that a belt has broken. The problem is that this system uses two belts, only one of which is easy to see. If you're sure that the control knob is in the correct position, and still the roller doesn't turn (although you can turn it freely by hand), then most likely a belt is broken. It's also possible that the clutch itself has failed.
Belt replacement on this model is not for the faint-hearted! To see what's involved, you can go to www.dysonmedic.com then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "DC07 clutch replacement" (DC14 is similar). Then you have to decide who is to do the job!
I value your feedback, so please remember to rate this response. Good luck!

Belt doesn't turn and makes a loud clicking noise

You need to replace them. There is a clutch belt and a brush roll belt that need to be replaced. You can get them here:

Loud noise

It could be caused by a worn or stretched belt or debris in the roller brush. You can get a replacement belt here:

Dyson making loud noise

If your brushroller isn't spinning it will make the loud sound. Try removing the brushroll and reinstalling it. If this doesn't work, you may need a new brushroller. You can find one here...

I have a Dyson Animal. Roller bar won't turn/belt intact

Actually, I'm the poster who said I have the same problem, but it turns out I have the DC07 animal, not the DC14, but perhaps the solution is the same for the DC14 and it doesn't cost anything! I called DYSON and they told me the clutch needed to be reset, so she had me recline the vacuum from its upright position, lay it on it's side, turn the carpet/bare floor dial slowly back and forth between the two settings about 6 times and it apparently reset the clutch and now the cleaner bar spins normally and there's no more loud grinding-type noises. She said if that didn't work, the next step would be to remove the bottom protective panel (secured with the three large plastic screws) and lift the entire cleaner bar (do not remove the belt) out about an inch or so and then reinsert it and reattach the bottom plate. I hope this helps your problem. Good luck.

Hi.

Check that brush roller (beater bar) is free to turn with no obstruction.
If it is still noisey after doing this try this site for Dyson repair manuals.
