You didn’t give a model # but if your model has an actuator, I’d look at that 1st. If it’s not that, then it’s probably the transmission or agitator may be stripped out.
Lid switch is probably failed easy fix. remove 2 screws at the base and slide down the front panel 1 inch to remove it. Check continuity on the lid switch.

This problem is normally attributed to a defective lid switch. If the lid switch is loose or broken the lid is not detected as being closed and the washer will not operate beyond the beginning of the wash cycle. You need to check the switch to see if it has become loose, or if the lid strike as been broken off. NOTE: If your washer is equipped with one, it will be a small plastic piece

listen for a "clicking" noise when opening nad closing the lid, sounds as if the lid switch migh tnot be making contact, but if it is running, just not agitaing or spinnning, you may have a problem with the motor coupling, this machines equivelent of a belt
Sounds like you have a bad brake & Drive tube (spin tube) the brake may not be ingaging or the ear are broken off the tube ( you can check this just remove the agitaator and you can check the ears)
either you have something stuck betwwen the two tubs(ie. a sock. ) preventing the tub from free spinning.or there is a clutch mounted on top of the transmission not engaging, as far the agitator not spinning correctly sounds liek the agitaor dawgs are stripped preventing proper agitaing(bottom of agitator works fine but upper portion free spins both ways without resistance?? correct??
