After I scaned and faxed a document from my Brother MFC-240C, I got an error: print unable 4F. I checked the printer that no paper jammed, what's the other issue?

Hi oliver_calga,

You can fix this if you access the internal maintenance mode and do the following:

1.First, press the Menu/Set button.

2.Then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2-3 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu.

3.Enter 80, and then scroll down with the arrow down key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.

This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart, hopefully without the error message.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi oliver_calga,

If the first post did not work for you kindly proceed in doing this:

Machine Error 4F from your Brother printer means it's not getting the correct feedback from its printhead. The most likely cure is to replace the printhead, but there's a slim chance it could be a defective board on the printhead carriage, or the machine's main board could be bad. If the machine is still under warranty contact the manufacturer.

    Hope it helps.

    Thank you for using FixYa.

Multi-Function Center MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer: i get the message "print unable 36" displayed on m...

Error code 36 is generally because of a paper jam that was not cleared. Remove the rear jam cover (the plastic cover in the back center of the machine)and the paper tray and check for any pieces of paper. Sometimes just a scrap will remain, but it's enough to cause the machine to not work.

Once you've replaced the covers, if the jam code does not reset, turn the machine off and then back on.

Printer unable 4F-what does this mean?

If still under warranty, I would call Brother for an RMA (return merchandise authorization) code and return the product. Why fiddle with it?

Print Unable 4F

The most common cause is jammed or shredded paper. Check for tiny pieces of paper throughout. Hope this helps.

Brother MFC-665 CW with "unable to print 4F" error

My MFC 665CW popped this same "Unable To Print 4F" error recently making the machine fully useless. Just an annoying triple beep and repeat error message to screen when trying to do anything at all with it. I wrote Brother about it. They said to check all through the machine (with a light) for any paper torn off inside, or unwanted foreign objects. This is a good step to do anyway to help maintain the printer. If that is not it, they said it would be a mechanical malfunction. I tried "resetting" by unplugging it for a while as they suggested to no avail. Also while I did find a bit of paper torn off down in my MFC 665 removing it had no effect.

Message unable to print 50

Machine Error 50 either means that there is a loose object inside the machine (usually piece of paper), or that there is a mechanical error which would need you to have the machine sent to service.
