I got one of these from a friend who couldn't get
theirs to work. I got an error message that alternated between "print unable 50" and "print unable 30". I called Brother and checked
on-line for a solution. Nothing helpful. So I took it apart, (
after unplugging it from the power outlet), just a few screws and snap locks really, wasn't too hard. When I got the black case, the body of the MFC, off I found a clear guide ribbon that rests in a track on the back of the print head resting on top of the
print-head assembly. I put the ribbon back in the track and reassembled the
MFC. I think a bad paper jam pushed the ribbon out of the guide track on the print head . All the errors are gone. There are no instructions for the
dis-assembly, but its not hard.
The screws, (8-10 screws in all), aren't hard to find, just the two screws hidden under the open
hinge as shown here. You have to unplug some
circuit connectors too. This method is best done by someone comfortable with taking the
MFC apart.
Or if you have small hands, you could probably get it to catch with your fingers in the opening for the print head as shown above, but I didn't get it repaired that way. Good luck. Post the results if you try to fix it.
