To reset the drum counter on a BROTHER MFC-8950DW open the front cover, press the start '*' button on the keypad, the screen will show the reset menu, click drum, click yes, and you will get a message on screen accepted. The procedure listed in the brother manual for this machine is wrong and does not work.

This issue occurs if you have installed incompatible software onto your Mac. The Brother machine's Scanner driver and CUPS printer driver are bundled into Mac OSX 10.6. The operating system will detect the printer and install the appropriate driver. Please consult the Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard Support Statement for a complete list of Brother Machines that have bundled drivers available.

I would try manually inserting the paper for the back side. Most of the time it's best to wait a few minutes before trying the back side to give it time to cool so it will lie flat.

The problem is the spring that is located below the lever right in front of the clear plastic roller has lost its spring. If you remove the spring and stretch it a bit it will resolve the problem.

The service manual will be hard if not impossible to find. They only release those to factory authorized service centers. If you just need it for the fuser replacement instructions then often those will be either in the operators manual which is easy to find or the instructions will be in the box that the fuser comes in.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

The clear/back option is usually reserved for resetting drum page counts. Resetting toner page counts is usually achieved by a flag gear on the left hand side of the cartridge that rotates and tags a micro-switch arm inside the printer when the cartridge is first installed. If the micro switch doesn't register, the cartridge count is not reset although the flag gear has rotated and will not do so again unless manually reset.
