Fabric softener dispenser is filled with water

I just had the repairman come and fix the washer. It was not spinning and getting the water out. My housekeeper watched him take the front panel off and get out two pairs of panties and $1.57 in change. That part is fixed now but the fabric softener dispenser is filled with water. They don't know how to fix that. Does anybody know?

fabric softener dispenser is filled with water

  • main3 Mar 15, 2009

My fabric softener dispenser has not been working properly. When I check it after each load, it is full of water and the fabric softener is still in it. I also have had to open the front panel and empty the coins, nails, dollar bills, dog hair, etc. from the drain tube a couple of times. Now I also have to buy a new rubber door seal because I just checked and the door seal is basically shredded. I found this when I picked up the flap to check for lost baby socks. No wonder water was leaking all over my floor! I've owned this machine less than two years now, and it is the worst appliance purchase I've ever made.

I had this same problem. I found a repair manual online and found out how to get into Service Test Mode. There is a test (t12) for the dispenser motor/mechanise. Running this test basically just runs water through each of the dispenser compartments (prewash, wash, bleach, fabric softner). All ran fine - no error codes. I continued to run the test on the fabric softner dispenser repeatedly and after 5-10 cycles it started draining properly. I think a tube (or valve or opening) was just clogged with the built up softner. I also put some vinegar in the compartment a time or two just to clean out any residue. Be careful with the Service Test Mode - read directions carefully - the manual warns that if you don't get out of it corretly that it can lock up you washer.

Fabric softener dispenser will not empty

Hello Mike Oswald - Fabric Softener is a very thick liquid that can clog up the siphoning mechanism. Try the following steps below.
  1. Remove the Dispenser
  2. Remove the Inset in the dispenser
  3. Clean out the dispenser and dispenser cover

The Fabric dispenser needs to have the hot and cold water at equal pressure for the fabric softener dispenser to operate properly.

1. Turn on the hot water fill then cold water fill at the washer. If the Wash Sense or temperature sensing is on it needs to be off.

  • If they seem to fill at the same pressure then you will need to contact a professioanl to move forward accurately.
  • If they seem not to fill at the same then you need to correct the pressure.

Frigidaire washing machine fabric softner will not dispense out

Hello - There are several things that could cause the fabric softener to not dispense into the washer. Are you sure the liquid in the dispenser after the wash is fabric softener? If it is fabric softener, the solenoid that lets the water into the dispenser is not working. This solenoid is located on the back of the dispenser. It only gets voltage during the dispense time and fills the fabric softener dispenser with water. The fabric softener dispenser fills while the washer is filling for the rinse cycle.

When the washer begins to fill for the rinse cycle, the fabric softener solenoid is energized and water flows into the fabric softener dispenser cup. When the cup is full the water siphons out and softener and water flow into the tub.

If the liquid in the fabric softener dispenser is pure softener you may need a technician to diagnose and repair the problem. The voltage will have to be tested to the softener solenoid and a volt meter is required.

If the liquid in the fabric softener dispenser is water you probably need to clean the dispenser cup. **** will build up in the siphon tube and stop the liquid from going into the washer tub. The incoming water will dilute the softener and overflow the dispenser cup and run into the tub. The instructions for cleaning the dispenser should be located on page 43 of the use and care guide that came with the washer.

If you don't have the use and care guide these instructions will help. Open the dispenser until it stops. In the left rear corner of the dispenser, there is a release that is labeled push. Press down on the push area and you can slide the dispenser drawer out.

Remove the insert from the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Clean the bottom of the insert and the bleach and fabric softener compartments. Reinstall the insert and put the drawer back inside the washer.

To test the siphon action slowly pour water into the fabric softener compartment. When the water level goes above the maximum line stop pouring. The water should all drain out.

Hope this information proves to be helpful however if it is ineffective please contact a professional to move forward accurately.

My spin cycle will not finish and I get a code F 03.

The problem with the fabric softener not dispensing is not likely related to and F03 error code due to the washer not draining.

For the dispenser problem, I recommend that you pull the dispenser drawer out and clean it thoroughly.
The fabric softener dispenser works on a siphoning principle.
Make sure that the siphon hole in the dispenser is clear and not restricted or plugged.

You can fill the fabric softener compartment with water and make sure that it is siphoning properly while you are cleaning it.
Make sure that the cover is properly replaced on the fabric softener dispenser when the drawer is replaced in the washer.
You can use the diagnostic test described below to test the fabric softener dispenser.
If the softener dispenser does not fill and dispense properly, you could have a failed dispenser valve, a failed control board or a wiring failure between components.

You indicated that you tested the pump and that it is good. You could have a clogged drain hose or a clogged washer drain that would prevent the washer from draining.
You could also have a failed drain pump even though it runs. If the impeller is jammed or damaged, it will not pump out the water in the washer.
You will likely need to unplug the washer and drain the water out of the tub using a wet/dry shop vacuum.
To check the pump and drain hose at the bottom of the washer, remove the bottom front service panel and remove the drain pump. You may find a clog or restriction in the drain pump or connecting hoses. If the drain pump is damaged or will not work, it will need to be replaced.

Fabric softener dispenser fills up with clear water after washing cycle is complete. I do not use fabric softener .

Purchase some fabric softener and place it in its normal location at the beginning of the cycle. At the end of the cycle check to see if fabric softener has been dispensed and whether there is water in the cup.

If the fabric softener is gone, but there is water in the fabric softener cup, then your problem may be with the water valve assembly. The water valve assembly (as one complete unit) has a separate solenoid for hot and cold water temperatures, bleach and fabric softener. The fabric softener solenoid on the water valve assembly could be defective (allowing water to fill the fabric softener cup).

Water left in fabric dispenser after load

Hi,

The dispensers work by the siphon principle. You load the softener and at the proper time, the machine diverts water to the softener cup raising the level. In the softener cup, there is a tube loosely covered with a cap. When the level in the softener cup is raised high enough, a siphon effect is started and the softener is pulled from the cup into the washer. This will continue until the water quits flowing and air gets under tha cap, breaking the siphon. The amount of water remaining in the cup is dependent on the level of the cap, and the amount of residual water remaining in the dispenser fill tube once the siphon effect is broken. You can see this effect for yourself: take a measuring cup and slowly pour water into the softener cup, raising the level above the max line. When the level gets high enough, the contents of the cup will dispense. You can remove the cover cap that is a part of the dispenser and clean it; it will help. Removing the entire tray and cleaning all of the tubes and the cap assembly will also help. The only other thing that can be done is to change the dispensing supply valve, as it sounds like there may be some leak by after the fabric softener is dispensed. Having residual water isn't really hurting anything. It's only water, and the machine has dispensed the softener! Try the cleaning part first as this usually corrects the issue, and then the repair technician if it still bothers you. For as much as the extnded warranty costs, you should be completely satisfied with your machine.

Gunk in middle of agitator

the fabric softener spins out of the cup after the wash cycle when spinning the water out of clothes, then the washer fills back up for the rinse w/ your softener having been dispensed. is there a nut at the bottom of your agitator where you see the gunk? If so you can take the agitator out by removing the nut but be careful of the little parts that make the agitator agitate. Do not disturb these little parts if you don't know about them. Does the gunk smell like grease or a mechanics garage? If so chances are it is a lubricant and should not be removed replace the cap and your softener cup and continue enjoying your machine.
