The ink levels will replenish themselves. To clear the printer queue, check the queue first on the computer (there should usually be a printer icon in the system tray). If you cannot clear it via the computer, do so via the printer itself (unfortunately not all printers do this the same way so we'd need to know the printer make and model)

How to turn off test print on a HP DJ 6122.

Yes.Tell it to print a dot short word and when it starts printing unplug the power cord so it stops with the printhead somewhere to the left. Then do your cart change. It won' t know you did anything.
The 6122 will print from the HP 920, 930, 932, 940 & 950 drivers also - (which are included with your Windows XP and Vista systems). If you chose the 970 driver it will want a second sheet of paper to print a test page, which you can ignore and it will stop trying. All drivers seem to be the same print quality in my systems. I do not use the 970 or 6122 driver at all so I don't have an ink level monitor or any possible related potential glitch. I wet and slap stubborn old ink cartridges to un-stick dry jets. sometimes I use a small clear silicone tube to suck a bit of ink to get them started as the jet holes need priming sometimes if they are old.

Installed new ink and now won't print anything, not even a test page. says error. deskjet 4400 series

Each ink cartridge has a metal, thin Copper 'plate'.
In this 'plate' there is a series of VERY small holes. The holes are so small it's hard to discern their existence, with just the ***** eye.

The area on the printer's body, that the copper plate matches up to, also has matching holes.

After a given time the ink dries up in these tiny holes.
The dried ink needs to be removed.

Printer UNPLUGGED from power, printer case open.
I would suggest wearing dish washing gloves, and remove all ink cartridges.

Small bowl half full of distilled water as hot as you can stand it, dip a clean, lint-free cloth in it. (Distilled, because non-distilled water can leave hard water spots)

Squeeze all excess water out until the cloth is damp. (D-A-M-P) Wipe the area on the body of the printer.

I would suggest wiping in one direction only. Wipe, then go to a fresh, clean part of the cloth, wipe again.
Keep wiping until the cloth picks up No ink.

You may want to follow suit on the ink cartridge/s now, as they may have picked up dried ink.

Suggest use a can of compressed air for computers, and make SURE all areas are D-R-Y.

Allow the printer to set open to dry afterwards. May only take 30 minutes, or less.

Ensuring all surfaces are dry from the water, reinstall the ink cartridges.
Close the printer's case. Plug back into power, WAIT 1 minute, then turn on.

I have an HP printer...2.5 years old. I changed

That sounds more like a problem with windows. I would look at the printer spooler or print job manager and see if there is a test print stuck in there. If you can delete it it should stop. If not you can manually delete the the spooled file or uninstal and then reinstall the print software.

You were being cheap when you ran out of ink and replaced only the Black Ink Cartridge.

HP Photosmart C3100 series BEWARE SPAM NUMBER 1-800-532-4187

I just got off the HP help line.  After changing my black ink cartridge a test page was printing each time I turned the machine on.  This is very costly, in both time and ink as the cartridges themselves for this machine hold very little ink.  I tried to learn from HP tech how to turn off the test-print while keeping my color cartridge empty.  It turns out that you cant do it.  HP requires you to keep buying and using cartridges whether you need them or not.If you buy the color ink it will use it up in its testings.  And if you dont buy the color cartridge it will use up your black ink by printing the test each time you turn on the printer.  The printer was inexpensive sure, but I'm paying for it in wasted ink.
