Canon MP500 PGPK cartridge wont print

After many ink level issues, bought new Canon PGBK black cartridge, put it in. No black prints on paper for greyscale printing. ControlProgram/Printer knows that cartridge is full. Did deep cleaning. Then nozel check has absolutely nothing printed for the PGBK nozel, not even the left column heading for that cartridge. All other nozels ok.

I have the PIXMA MP500 & 3 of m ink cartridges #8 blue, magenta & yellow ran out of ink but I have a brand new #8 black & #5 pgbk that I changed. Now I just want to print from the black ink...

Unfortunately, the printer is designed to need all of the ink cartridges in place and no empty ink cartridges. This is designed to protect the ink system from damage.

There is a way to print a color document in black and white but it won't help with your issue. (Enter the Printing Preferences by right clicking on the icon for the Canon MP500 in the Devices and Printers Panel (Win7). (It's Printers for the Vista Classic View and Printers and Faxes for XP) Then put a check mark in the box for Greyscale Printing in the main tab. Then click OK and close the window. There is a similar method for Mac OS versions.)

I wish that I had better news.

Canon PIXMA MP500 New Black ink cartridge produces no ink

If you don't use it very often the black could have dried in the printhead, and you will need a new one. Another possibility is that the purge unit is not cleaning and priming the printhead properly. I have seen several defective purge units. For 1 year it can be replaced under warranty, after that it is a $90.00 repair job in the shop.

My canonmp830 printer is not printing in black ink

**Repeat from previous post. Would not print black. I went through all the troubleshooting of cleaning the printhead several times. The Nozzle check (found under Printing Preferences/Maintenance tab) kept coming out without the PGBK section (Black) printed on it. All the colors printed. If your see any of the colors missing, it is probably the same problem---it needs the Print Head replaced.
Part # QY6-0061-010. I was able to find it at Canyon Computer Supplies in Phoenix, but you can also order them via the internet from multiple outlets. Mine cost $59.57 with tax...much cheaper than a new printer. The replacement is very easy...Canon has info on how to do it at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=123&modelid=12804#SupportDetailAct ...if the link doesn't get you right there, search MP830, Support & Service, then search print head & you should find it. Once you remove all the print cartriges (printer ON), the gray lever on the left side lifts up and releases the print head...which is the unit that houses all the print cartridges. I just put the new print head in, replaced all the ink cartridges, did a nozzle check...and it worked!! I love fixing things myself.

Black ink

The PGBK cartridge is a pigment black ink, while the others use a dye for coloration. The pigment black is used when printing text and other documents. The dye ink is used when printing photos and other colored documents. The dye black is used in conjunction with the color (dye) inks to provide tinting and color gradation, and therefore is not used nearly as much as the pigment black unless you use your printer only for printing photos.

If you're printing text and documents, you will need to buy another pigment black (PGBK) cartridge.

Pixma mp500

  • Replace a new Canon ink cartridge as it could be due to the unique features that Canon has build on their ink cartridge not done properly which resulted to be faulty. Report the issue to Canon if your existing ink cartridge is not from other 3rd party band, Canon should be able to do 1 to 1 exchange once confirmed that it is their ink cartridge problem. Cannon has build the unique feature to prevent users from misusing 3rd party ink cartridge on their printer.
  • Other times if by replacing new ink cartridge the problem for error code still occurs, it might be the pin on the print-head has lost the alighting, this will require for Canon to service to alight back the pin on print-head in order for the printer to operate smoothly again.
  • Or missing pin has dropped off from the print-head which causes the printer not able to read the ink cartridge, printer needs to be serviced.
  • (Maybe check with your own nearby technician if by any lucks they can help to rescue your printer, which I hope Canon does not have further enhancement on their printer with other Unique features to prevent users from using 3rd party technical support.)
