Pull the power plug, that's the easiest way to reset it. If you mean factory reset the settings you will need to go through the settings menu on the printer to do that.

1.The machine is not on-->You cannot send faxes if the power is turned off.Press [on/off] to torn the power on.
After a power failure or disconnecting of the power cord ,press [on/off] to turn the power on.
2.The telephone line is connected to the external device jack .
Reconnect to the Telephone ?Line Jack .
If you still cannot send a fax,there is a problem with the telephone line.
3.Cannot here the dial tone-->check that the telephone line si connected correctly to the proper jack,if so,then there is a problem with your telephone line.Contact your telephone line provider.

This is what usually happens " THE USB CORD IS IN THE PHONE JACK AND THE FAX THINKS THAT THE PRINTER IS "ON HOOK."

Follow the steps below to fix the issue.

The thing is, in the back of the printer you have a column of jacks, the one on top has an icon of a phone and the one on bottom has a picture of an "L" or laptop. TAKE YOUR USB CORD OUT OF EITHER ONE OF THOSE, NO MATTER WHICH ONE IT MAY BE. What you may not have figured out by now is that there is a THIRD jack that is not anywhere near those two. If you're facing the front of the printer to the far right of the backside of the machine, there is this deep cavity that has your third, miracle jack in it. It's even more to the right than the two jacks I described previously and its icon looks like a sideways, three-pronged cactus. Plug the square end of the USB cord into that jack, and the In Use/Memory light should stop blinking, and your printer can stop acting like car because the annoying, turn-signal clicking should stop as well. :)

You're problem was probably the same as mine, when you moved your printer, you neglected to find your instructions manual (because you probably neglected to put that in a safe placed too lol) and you forgot which jack the USB cord went into.

the error code 6A00 means :

1. an error occurred in the motor during the purg operation
2. check the purg unit if it's broken replace

ERROR 5100 means that there is some foreign object blocking your cartridges carriage that disables it from moving. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there


Next try.

It may be a piece of paper or a scotch tape or a staple wire.
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

6A00 is a problem with the sheet feed unit.
Follow Canon's suggestion, take it or send the unit UPS to the Authorized Repair Facility.
You will NOT be able to resolve the problem yourself.

your printer needs proper cleaning or service

**Repeat from previous post. Would not print black. I went through all the troubleshooting of cleaning the printhead several times. The Nozzle check (found under Printing Preferences/Maintenance tab) kept coming out without the PGBK section (Black) printed on it. All the colors printed. If your see any of the colors missing, it is probably the same problem---it needs the Print Head replaced.
Part # QY6-0061-010. I was able to find it at Canyon Computer Supplies in Phoenix, but you can also order them via the internet from multiple outlets. Mine cost $59.57 with tax...much cheaper than a new printer. The replacement is very easy...Canon has info on how to do it at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=123&modelid=12804#SupportDetailAct ...if the link doesn't get you right there, search MP830, Support & Service, then search print head & you should find it. Once you remove all the print cartriges (printer ON), the gray lever on the left side lifts up and releases the print head...which is the unit that houses all the print cartridges. I just put the new print head in, replaced all the ink cartridges, did a nozzle check...and it worked!! I love fixing things myself.

There's a couple things you can try:

First, make sure there is no paper jam anywhere in the machine.. look inside, rear, where the paper tray (output) is, etc to see if you find any shreds or torn paper that may have gotten stuck and you didn't see.

Double check that your ink tanks are seated right too

Also, be sure that your scanner is UNLOCKED...
With the machine turned OFF:
Open the document cover, look on the tray where the glass is -- and then look to the LEFT side of the glass and you will see pictures of an opened lock and a closed lock and a little switch...
Make sure the switch is next to the UNLOCKED position.
WAIT 5 seconds or so and then turn the unit back on.

If you STILL have the error code, try these two types of resets:

To clear the memory:

1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)
   
   
2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.
   
   
3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

To do a stop/reset:

To clear error messages displayed on the LCD or if the printer is not functioning as expected, it may be necessary to simultaneously press Stop/Reset and ON/OFF buttons.

1. With the printer powered on, PRESS AND HOLD DOWN the <Stop/Reset> button then press the ON/OFF button.
   
   
2. Once the printer is powered off, hold down <Stop/Reset> and then press <ON/OFF>.

If none of the above clears it up, you may have to have the machine serviced.. check to see if you are still under warranty.

Take it back for a full replacement, it sound like it has a few faults, why be stuck with it, you have the right to fair trading, which states your product must do wahta it should for a reasonable amount of time. Just out of box and faulting already is not reasonable!!! Hope you hace receipt.

my suggestion : take your printer to an authorized service center, probably the printer has a defective electronic board, there is nothing you can do to fix it
