Where is it? I did a rubbing on heiroglyphics on bottom of printer, mostly in Thai, but there were two number, one that starts with a Q and the other that starts with a K. Which one is it?
You need the UPC code for a rebate. You won't find that on the printer itself. It's on the box that the printer came in, usually one of the flaps or on an end panel. Most rebates require that you cut out this square (it says Secondary Proof of Purchase and has the code in it) from the box and mail it with the rebate (that's to keep people honest, I guess). According to a rebate coupon I found for the MX700, it should be a 12-digit (all numeric) code.
I'm not that old a Marine. I retired from the Marines 20 years ago, but once a Marine always a Marine (we make an exception for Lee Harvey Oswald).

Hi, I didn't find the metal plate, but under the printer there were several numbers, and one that started with a Q. I will call Canon phone support and find out which number I need to put on rebate form.
I see that you are an old Marine. Did you by any chance fight at Iwo Jima? My husband is an orphan from that battle, and is deeply involved in trying to find out information about his father. He has done much research, and has a website with a collection of photos his widow found in her photo albums. He goes to reunions, which I enjoy because I get to meet the nicest people.
I found it! Thank you. MemaOester
couldn't find serial number, you have to lift scanning bed and get to the printer heads, and down in the hole to the left is where the little hidden number lies
What is it that you're looking for? If you need the serial number, open the top of the unit, and look for a metal plate just to the left of center in the area that the print head sits. It should be four letters followed by five numbers.
