I tried putting different different paper in there. Didnt check the encoder strip. Where would that be? I cant even turn it on or off with the on/off button. When I replaced a low ink cartridge it didnt go into the cleaning it usually does.

I have a brother mfc 665 cw printer that has an unable to print 50 error. Everyone is telling me its a paper jam but I dont see any hint of a paper jam. Ive opened the 2 covers and dont see anything out of place. Someone had mentioned the encoder strip as the problem. Im not sure even where that would be.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for it that could help also try rebooting the machine and printer

Hi,

Hi,

This Error can show up for following reasons :

1. There is some piece of paper / paper clip / sticker stuck inside printer and you are not able to access it. In this case you need to remove all ink cartridges, turn off printer, then turn it upside down and shake it few times. If still not working then you need to open it up as much you can to see if something is stuck

2. The electric sensor which receives signal from the mechanical paper sensor to detect jam has issues. Either there is dust on it or its gone bad and needs replacement. You should first open up the printer and blow air in it (using compressed air can) to remove all dust. If it doesn't work then this repair will cost you much more than buying a new Printer. If its in warranty certainly call Brother.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. There might be a paper jam before this error code. The paper might have dislocated the encoder strip. Please turn off the printer and push it back into its slot to resolve the issue. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Lift printer cover and remove the two plastic
panels. Mark the position of cables and remove them. Now remove the top scanner
section and remove screws from top plastic shell. Bent aside the two plastic
tabs in the front to remove the top shell and gently put the encoder strip back
in the guide. If still the issue is not resolved, then see the link---

Im getting unable to print 50 error on my brother mfc 665cw

The paper jam you had probably lifted the long, thin, plastic encoder strip out of its slot. It is making the printer think paper is still jammed. Try gently pushing the strip back into the slot. You might have to use a screwdriver or other thin instrument to get to the strip.
Be sure printer is off when you do this.

Unable to print 30 or 50

the encoder strip is probably out of its socket. its a long mylar strip that goes from one side to the other, and goes underneath the printhead.

I have a brother mfc 665cw printer, had a printer jam, cleared the jam and now recieve unable to print 50 error, unable to copy or print. Have found some information about the encoder strip but I have no...

Normal 0 I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed through the printer. The reason for this is in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps. Bud
